    The \'Pro Stock\' look on my G20 High-Top Van???

So I'm in the market for some tires for the Van... Needs all new digs, but will have to settle for used stuff until funds roll in. I can usually get a set of 4 tires for $80-$100 if I look around a little. It has good 235/75-15's on the front but the 30x9.50's on the back are thin on tread, and one has started the 'Death Wobble' and I'm pretty sure it's about to have a puppy. The Wife drives it like an Indy Pace Car, so I've thought several times I should get at least a minimal speed rating on the next set of tires.

So today I hit a few tire shops and didn't have much luck. Last stop right before 5pm I find two GoodYear white lettered tires of some sort in 275/60-15. About the same height but a lot wider. Should fit a 7" rim OK though. $40 for the 2 tires mounted and balanced, out the door...

I didn't have time to get them but plan to go back in the morning. I figure it'll have that 'Pro Street' look with big meats on the back and 'Skinnies' on the front. Should get by until I have cash to put new digs all around.

    So what do you think?

What do you think of my Big Fat Tires???
    <input type="radio" name="option" value="1" />Sweeet. I've always wanted a Pro Street Chevy Van.
<input type="radio" name="option" value="2" />Hmmm. Should provide some good sledding on the ice!
    <input type="radio" name="option" value="3" />235/75-15's on the front and 30x9.50's on the back? WTF?

Got them put on today. It ended up being almost $50 for the two tires mounted and balanced out the door. Used tires are ultra-cheap if you hunt around for them a little. I spent most of the day on Friday calling and driving around so you have to factor in the time spent compared to the money saved... Of course I would have spent just as much time pricing and hunting for new tires too... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

They're 275/60-15 Good Year Eagle GTII's with a little more than half tread I'd say. And Yes, the big Ol' Van will smoke'm! (With a little brake-torquing... /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif )

I wish he had a set of 4. It looks better than I thought it would. They're just a tad big for a 7" rim, but fit quite nicely and are about the same height as the 235/75's on the front. I may go for this size when I spring for all new digs... Definitely could use the speed rating...

Will try to snap a pic tomorrow. I'll try to get a pic of it smokin' them!

When you buy new tires, check out the Firestone Firehawks. I had some fatties on the back end of a 84 Camaro. Looked great, I can piture them on a van, that'd be cool. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If you really do have rust-free Pintos I'm pretty sure there are 'Pinto Cults' out there that would pay good cash for them... /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I stuck a set of 255/70R15's on my wifes G20, they look really nice all around. I went with the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. They handle the weight of the van really well and have a relativly high speed rating which is good considering how my wife drives the thing.

Only problem I've had with the larger tires is on large bumps, the fronts will rub the fiberglass fender flares really hard. I think new shocks and springs will help out a bunch, but heres a shot of it anyway.

That's a Sweet Ride! Mine has the fiberglass fender flare running board dealies too and I was surprised that 30x9.50's didn't rub on the front. It has stock 15x7 rims on it though and it looks like yours has a little wider rims that might stick a little farther out.

Cool Van in any case. I Love the full size vans. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks, my wife loves driving this thing around.

I've got a few plans for it, but I need to sink some money into my Suburban first. Those are actually 15x7's but I'm not sure what the BS is on them. As for the front tires hitting, it's the inner mounting lip for the flares that rubs them. And I think thats just due to worn out front springs (the previous owners were quite large) I'm going to replace those and have the front end rebuilt this winter and that should help out a bunch.

I'm kinda half azz looking for a Quigley 4x4 full size Chevy van now too. Just thought it'd be cool to have one. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I just rebuilt the front end on ours too... Ball joints were bad and it was eating front tires. It had about 90K on it when we bought it and new shocks made a world of difference in the ride.

Here it is... Completely stock! It's got about 150K on it now and still (knock on wood...) running strong... I did replace the stock exhaust with a 3" pipe back to a Flowmaster with 2" dual outlets. It picked up 2mpg and sounds sweet. Otherwise as long as the body holds out (Came from Texas and no rust yet...) I'll probably replace the motor/trans as many times as necessary... It's paid for! I figure it runs pretty good with the 230hp TBI 350, so maybe a mild 383 would be a good 'next motor' for it and wouldn't be too radical for the stock TBI...

I LOVE the Quigley Vans!!! I found a really nice one when I was in college for $1500 but was too poor... I guess I haven't looked for a while but I'm sure they aren't getting any cheaper... I heard you can get an AWD full size van off the showroom floor now... /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Yeah the new AWD vans are actually built using Quigley's IFS design. I'm not sure if they are the ones doing the work for GM or if it's someone else.

Man thats a nice looking ride, I like the earth tone colors (brown, green) on them better than what I've got, but like ya said, It's paid for.

I just blew up the muffler on mine this last weekend! It was getting bad and I knew it needed to be replaced but it just blew the case open while I was driving. So I'm going to be replacing the cat back portion with a 3" system and a nicer muffler in the next couple of months, it's got a cheap replacement in there right now.
The only rust I have is right around the bottom of the windows, so I plan on getting them pulled out and fixing that little bit before it gets too bad.
I like the idea of a mild 383 in it, that would be sweet. And I may be going that way sooner than anticipated now that I found my wife was running it for at least 2 weeks with no oil in the engine! /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

I headed up to Akron to pick up some parts I bought from another member and a little out of town the engine started amaking some noise, so I pulled into a truck stop and found no oil! there were some fine flakes on the dip stick, so I filled it up and it ran fine and there aren't anymore flakes in the oil, gotta check the filter and drain plug now but I'm hoping it didn't do too much damage, could I ever get that lucky. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Here's my Van 3 years after the above picture was taken... Just got a set of 255/60TR-15's put on it today, and it looks pretty good. A little lower profile than stock, they look a little better in the fender flares. Sheesh I love Chevy Vans. Now if I could just get my Camaro running...

Got the tires on just in the nick of time too... The Wife and Kids met me for lunch, and she said on the way there it was really vibrating bad and she almost pulled over. I thought it was about to have a puppy from one of the front tires. I escorted her to the tire shop, and the guys there told her that one of the fronts had a puppy about to pop on the inside of the sidewall. I think it slipped a belt a couple of months ago and it has been getting progressively worse. I've been waiting to get time to put tie rod ends on it, but I'll have to do it this weekend now and get the alignment done next week. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif
