What do you all think of the word "aint"? In between eating doughnuts and standing around the water cooler I spend some time checking out various message forums relating to off roading and I see a lot of people typing who really have no clue how the english language works. Granted, I am no english major but I try to not sound like an uneducated moron.

I recetly noticed a signature on another forum that read "If you aint broke, you aint tryin" After reading a few of this persons posts I realized how dumb he was. So I think...I wonder if ain't is a word now and I look it up on dictionary.com. Basically it says that the word is uneducated speach and I am like, wow that is pretty harsh.

How imoportant is proper spelling and grammer too you?

STFU, you just killed any possibility of a decent argument by misspelling grammar. :screwy:

ain't---am not; a dialectal or nonstandard contraction for is not, are not, and have not.

It does sound redneck, but I always thought it was used as a slang word like so many other's.

I am not trying to argue that so and so is some super dee dooper all knowing one or that so and so is dumb. Everyone fat fingers a word every now and then, throws in an extra letter or gets a bit dyslexic from a hard days carb consumption.

I am curious about preconceived opinions formed about a person based on their word useage.

Can you imagine a world of clones where there was no slang whatsoever?

Slang is fine, it's the mis-spelled 2 page single paragraphs I hate. :D

preconcieved opinions... not really, maybe a little one in the back of my mind that says "is this person from the south?" but that's it.

I usually don't think a person is of lesser intelligence because of how they speak, unless it's godawful.

However if a person speaks eloquently, I think of them as much more intelligent.

I use 'ain't' sometimes but try not to! At junior school (damn that was a long time ago:doah: ) we were always being told by the teachers not to use it and say 'I am not' instead.
You oughta learn a speak proper like what I does, eh!:D

luckily I'm too old to say 'innit'

I like ain't. it is prolly one of my favorite words ever. I is soo cool to use it properly in a sentence. It is a great word to make a point with.
" You Aint got no clue, jackass" works real good when argueing with your wife.
I also like to use other words like themthar.
"You aint ben doin nuthin all day woman. Get offa yur fat ass an do themthar dishes."
You jes gotta know how to sweet talk to themthar wemen.
    Other whys they will runnoft

Opinions are only as good as the person conceiving them. If you honestly feel a person is any less intelligent based upon their word usage, then you ain't too intelligent either. Look at the Greek language. Do you think that the Greek for-fathers wood have approved of some of the "slang" that was created using their origional words?

I agree with this and have seen it first hand where I work. I'm a mechanic and work closely with several guys. One guy corrects people's grammar, likes to impress you with his knowledge and constanly laughing at our spelling. This guy is one of the stupidest people I have ever met. He's a parts replacer and can't diagnose anything when it comes to automotive or heavy duty work. He's a sheep and just follows whatever is politically corrrect, or in fashion right now. He acts like the rest of us are red necks and not at his level of sophistication.
I'm not ranting here or trying to bad mouth a guy no one here knows. My point is this guy is the most miserable guy I have ever met and seems to have problems with every part of his life.

If I was to judge someone as to how smart they are I would look at how happy they are with there own life first, if they have their own opinions on things and don't just go along with what's on the news or may be popular right now and last how succesful they are.

Grammar , spelling or even education has nothing to do with how smart or knowledgable someone is.

Oh yea. I'm sure there are several spelling mistakes in my post. I don't need them corrected and AINT is a word.
