Sorry, moved from garage, wasn't paying attentionwhen I posted.

    Report: American Hostage Executed

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Terrorists in Saudi Arabia reportedly have carried out their threat and beheaded American hostage Paul M. Johnson Jr. (search), the Arab satellite network Al-Arabiya reported Friday.

    No independent confirmation was available.

Thousands of Saudi police had searched Friday for Johnson, three days after the terrorists who captured him gave the government 72 hours to free Al Qaeda prisoners in exchange for his freedom.

Johnson's wife appealed for his safe return on Arab television Friday.

"Please! I want him to come back to see me. He didn't do anything wrong," Thanom Johnson, said in interview on Saudi-owned satellite TV channel Al-Arabiya (search). "I've never seen him having any problems with the people here. Never."

In Johnson's hometown of Eagleswood Township, N.J., relatives held a vigil Thursday night.

Johnson's kidnappers released a videotape of him on Tuesday night saying they would kill him unless the Saudi government released all militants in its prisons within 72 hours. The Saudis have rejected the demand.

Police went through several Riyadh neighborhoods from Thursday night through Friday morning, but authorities gave no indication they were any closer to Johnson, a Lockheed Martin (search) employee who was kidnapped Saturday by a group calling itself Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. The organization is believed to be headed by Abdulaziz Issa Abdul-Mohsin al-Moqrin (search), the top Al Qaeda figure in Saudi Arabia.

People living in the districts, which lie in western and southern Riyadh, suggested that the kidnappers enjoy popular support, partly because of U.S. policy in Iraq and its perceived backing for Israel.

"How can we inform on our brothers when we see all these pictures coming from Abu Ghraib and Rafah," Muklas Nawaf, a resident of Dhahar al-Budaih, said as he ate meat grilled on a spit at a restaurant called Jihad, Arabic for holy war. He was referring to the pictures of Iraqis abused by U.S. soldiers at the Abu Ghraib prison (search) in Baghdad and Israeli military incursions and killings in the Gaza refugee camp of Rafah.

"This is not a little skirmish. It is a war," Nawaf said.

A preacher of Riyadh's Imam Sultana Mosque implored the kidnappers to release Johnson in a column published in Al-Riyadh newspaper on Friday.

"O, youth of the nation who have trodden the wrong path, come back to the fold of the community of Islam. Avoid this sedition and be obedient to the ruler of the Muslims," Sheik Mohammed bin Saad al-Saeed wrote.

A senior Saudi official in the United States said Thursday night that U.S. and Saudi officials have had few promising leads in their search for Johnson.

The Saudi official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the probe, said there had been no communications from the kidnappers except for the video and statement on the Web site.

The FBI has sent a team of about 20 specialists in hostage rescue, hostage negotiations, profiling and other specialties who were working directly with Saudi officials, the official said.

More than 15,000 Saudi officers have been deployed in the search of Riyadh, going door-to-door in some neighborhoods. More than 1,200 Saudi homes had been searched as of Thursday night.

"We are even using the fire department, for instance, because they have knowledge of their neighborhoods, and districts," the official said.

In a letter posted late Wednesday on Web sites where Al Qaeda supporters and other militants leave messages, a man who identifies himself as Saad al-Mu'men — a pseudonym meaning "Saad The Believer," — urges militants to spare Johnson, saying killing him would violate Islamic law. "I will curse you in all my prayers" if he is harmed, it warned.

The writer said he had given Johnson his protection under Islam, and quoted the Prophet Muhammad as saying: "If they were granted (Muslim) protection, then killing or taking their money or harming them is forbidden."

The writer also said Johnson had expressed opposition to U.S. foreign policy and an interest in converting to Islam.

The letter was posted on Web sites known for Islamic extremist writings and was subsequently posted on the Web site of the Saudi-owned satellite television channel Al-Arabiya.

Other contributors to the Islamic Web sites ridiculed the message and called for Johnson's death.

Al-Arabiya told the AP that al-Mu'men had contacted the station but agreed to be identified only by the pseudonym. The station said it had confirmed the man it interviewed was the author of the letter, but it did not say how.

Al-Mu'men refused an interview with the AP in a message relayed through the station.

Friends and relatives of Johnson sang "Amazing Grace" and "God Bless America" as they held candles and small flags at a vigil late Thursday in Eagleswood, New Jersey, a town where the engineer grew up.

"Your love, your prayers and your support are appreciated," his niece Angel Roork said at the vigil.

Amid concern over Johnson's fate, the U.S. State Department updated a 2-month-old travel warning for Saudi Arabia, pointing out that attacks on Americans there have resulted in deaths and injuries and, in a reference to Johnson, a kidnapping.

The Associated Press contributed to this report

Ya know... all sympathies to his friends and family, but...
A guy has to wonder... what the h*ll are you doing sitting there in a middle eastern country, wearing your 'western' clothing, eating a big mac when there is a war going on???
Isnt that kinda like a member of the Jewish persuasion sitting in Berlin trying to report the news about the mass murders happening during the second world war? *no disrespect to anyone involved in the war intended* /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
My opinion... get out of those f*cked up countries especially ones where the USA and allies arent looked upon with kindness!

Or... turning it into a parking lot is another option! /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Very, very sorry this happened (it hasnt been confirmed yet) but this is exactly why we are at war on terrorism, they want us dead because we are Christians, its a Holy Jihad, the nicer we are to them the easier it makes it for them to kill us. No one in the World Trade Centers were harming Muslims either. When are we gonna understand that there is no negotiating with terrorists???

Support our troops, they are fighting terrorism in the terrorists back yard.

Actually he was an Apache helicopter mechanic from Lockheed under contract to the US military, so he had a really good reason for being there.

Spoken like a true canadian /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif J/K, but I agree on the parking lot idea. I have said from the jump that we just need to annihalate the whole country and make it glow. Just imagine what the rest of the world would think of us, that we are nuts and not to screw with us. Actually it would make us look like bigger murderers that the Al'Quieda themselves. There is no easy way out of this and I believe we are handling it the best we can.

Someone on another site suggested when they take someone in and make demands for people they want, we play their game, and behead the people they want. It's not much fun to kidnap Americans then and kill them when we kill who you want in return. Make it so the cost is too high for them to play these bs games. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Those F####### Pussy's. Those SOB's should be shot on the spot when they are found. Of course if we could just get the hell out of all those Muslim countries this kind of [darn] would stop. It pisses me off seeing innocent civilians being executed over our governments decisions. I guess those are the risks Americans take when they go to those countries to work. reality blows /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

If you want to make them understand we are not kidding, then we need to start killing them with bullets soaked in pigs blood, and burying them with dead pigs.
This prevents them from getting into thier heaven.
They used this tatic somewhere over in asia, and haven't had to many problems with the sob's since.

looking at the news reports... it seems that they were. I read some stories about Saudi anti-terrorist team raids killing 3 and wounding/capturing 1.... with 2 escaping. Among the dead is the #1 Al Queda man in Saudi Arabia. Nice catch.

i really really really doubt it. So long as we exist on this planet, binladen and his boys will want us dead. Think about it, before 9-11 there really weren't THAT many americans running around in the middle east.... and osama did the ONE thing that would guarentee our presence there for decades. If he wanted us gone, attacking NYC/DC is exactly the opposite of what he should have done. IMO, he wants all-out open war between islam and the west... because he's a religous zealot/racist scumbag. Him and his boys should be treated just like the Nazis... kick the [darn] out of them as hard as you can until the really nasty ones are either all dead, captured, or hiding in holes not doing bad stuff.

I'd tend to think of it more as innocent civilians being executed over their own decisions, with 100% of the blame being with the terrorists. If you have non-Islamic beliefs you are infadel and the enemy of Osama and he wants you dead.. thats all there is to it. He doesnt care if you're green party, liberatarian, christian, jewish, athiest, republican, democrat, socialist, defense contractor, peace protestor, journalist, house wife, communist, etc etc etc. Doesn't matter, we're ALL the enemy and therefore the target.

I understand your rage but lets concentrate it on the TERRORISTS. We've got to unify and focus our rage as a nation and not become more divided. We cant get out of all Muslim countries and as we've seen, they will come over here and get us anyway. Also these terrorists wanted Al Queda prisoners in Saudi Arabia so Paul Johnson was not murdered because of our governments decisions, he was murdered because he's a Christian (or from a Christian nation) and our enemy has sworn to god (not our God) to kill all infedels (you and me) in this Holy Jihad.

Israel ring a bell? This has all been going on much longer than the past few years. So has our military and non military presence. We've put ourselves into the middle east for so long some don't think we can pull out cause we'd look stupid saying for years all this stuff was important then when [darn] hits the fan we back out saying its not important? I agree I want us out but can we really?

we will never run out of enemies or terrorists. Its just not going to happen. Muslim radicals are not the only people in the world that hate America, or Christians. And if you think this is all about Christianity then why are the european countries that are mostly Christian not as big of targets as we are? Cause we have done a lot of crap in the middle east to piss these people off.

THEY = terrorists and those who harbor terrorists.

This is the same definition as its always been since the US finally decided to fight back against the terrorists after 9/11.

I didn't mean you didn't know who THEY are, some people seem to have a problem defining the line sometimes.

Yeah, I know what youre saying but overall its not us thats having a hard time defining the line, its the Muslims. Im good and ready for prominent middle eastern Muslim leaders to boldly stand up against this Jihad and publicly condemn any Muslims murdering innocent people. I hope it is beginning to happen as it appears that there is movement attempting to seperate terrorists from Muslims..... "We will continue to use every effort to fight this murderous cult in Saudi Arabia," Prince Turki al-Faisal said in London. Notice he called them a cult instead of Muslims. Also earlier today a middle eastern Muslim religious leader demanded that Paul Johnson be released and even placed some kind of curse on the terrorists....I cant find the article anymore otherwise I'd include the quote.
