Originaly posted in the garage but no responses.

Need opinions on whether 5/16" plate would be strong enough for disk brake mount flanges on the end of the axle.
I'm using 2003 HD disk brakes and E-brake setup but the problem is I have to extend the backing plate flange on a 14b axle by 5/16 of an inch to mount the caliper brackets in the right place.
I've cut the mount flanges off of the 2003 axle and they are 7/16" plate I'm thinking of having these machined down to 5/16" and then welding them onto the existing axle flanges in the position I need them.

Anyone have any experience with this?

If you are going to weld the 5/16 plate to the existing axle flanges then I don't see why it won't hold up. Let me know if this works. Just make sure that the weld is strong and will hold up......Jason
