In another aspect of the investigation, Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening was banning recreational use of firearms, including hunting, in four counties near Washington, including Montgomery and Prince George's counties, where sniper shootings have taken place.

The ban was aimed at limiting the reports of guns being fired, which have been pouring in to a telephone hotline set up to help the investigation.

I realize that they have to do everything they can to catch this guy, but something about this does not sit well with me. Seems like the kind of thing that someone would *accidentally* forget to revoke after the shootings have stopped. Possibly I'm over reacting.</font color>

I agree. For all the "don't change your way of life" cries, this certainly seems like a sneaky way/time to push the anti-gun bills...

Anyone else ever hear of the 1930's executive order that declared the US in a state of emergency that was never un-declared?

they showed the gun that is being used in these shootings and they say its an ak-74. i don't think you can get those legally without permits and stuff. i mean i'm sure theirs black markets and stuff for these guns but they still will try to put anti-gun laws and all that $hit. just pisses me off. later.

    Re: This doesn\'t bode well...

I've seen stuff on various sites around the web about a whole mess of Executive Orders from that far back and forward. Some stuff with FEMA that's a little concerning too. I'm not sure how GW is going to go on guns. They're still enforcing all the old gun laws and I have not heard of any agitation for change. With a Republican House now would seem like the time to do it. IIRC the Assault Weapons ban or at least parts of it are due for a sunset soon, if congress passes it again I think he might sign it - he did flop on CFR. His solicitor general is pressing a case to the USSC against a private gun owner. My hope is he's setting it up to lose and get the USSC to say the second is an individual right and can't have undue restrictions but I suppose time will tell.

Last I heard the military is going to start offering some overhead assistance to the local authorities to try to catch this sniper. I wonder if they'll ever deploy that stuff on the borders. The only push I've seen so far by the gun control folks since the sniper started is for gun 'fingerprinting' - Bush said he'd 'study' it but I think that just means he'll wait until after the election and then drop the idea.

I about fell on my face when I heard that on the news. And it's being pushed by one of my dumbass congressmen.

They might as well just start tattooing bar codes on our necks.

They just don't seem to get it, do they?

Why hasn't anyone figured out that if everyone was REQUIRED to carry a firearm then this nutball would most likely have been killed by a witness.

Actually, if everyone was REQUIRED to carry a firearm, we probably would not see this sort of dickhead out there shooting folks.

ummmm, kennasaw georgia is a prime example. every house is required to have a gun. it is the law. their crime rates fell through the floor like a warm knife through butter. what more proof is necessary?
