This is rediculous.

Did anyone hear of the two texans who were collecting debris from the Shuttle Columbia. The max penalty is 10 years in jail and 250,000 dollar fine. That is just unbelievably rediculous! I don't care what anyone says. For collecting debris?!

honestly they'll never seen either of those numbers.
i think its great that they're doing that, show the people that they arent f*cking around, they need every piece of evidence they can find....

i mean think of it this way, what if some of the parts they were collecting were key parts to knowing what happened...
that shuttle cost 1 billion dollars in 1981....replacement is going to be much higher...by knowing what happened they can make it better so it doesnt happen again....

i think they're sending out a good message that if you're stealing from nasa, they dont take it lightly....
did you hear something like 14 people had put pieces of the debris up on ebay? ebay ratted them out, and the FBI took over from there....trying to make money off of debris where 7 people were killed is sickening, i mean how would you feel if a family member of yours was killed on that shuttle and people were trying to sell the helmet that they wore, or a patch off of their suit that they found in the debris field....

they're just flexing their muscles right now...they gave a grace period where if you collected a piece of debris, you can call the police, tell them where you found it, and turn it over without any penalty....

I agree with you, that is completely outragesous !!!!!!!! I understand NASA needs the debris to determend what exactly went wrong, but that pentality is way overboard !!!!!!!!!

if they do get 10 years and that huge fine...i'll 100% agree with you that its WAY overboard...however i fully believe that once all the debris is collected, they'll get off with a slap on the wrist...they just needed to show they werent taking it lightly

Yea I dont think they'll get that much of a sentence, but just the idea that if the judge felt like abusing his power, he could /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I'm sure the publication of the maximum penalty will make everyone else think twice...and that is probably the whole point.

Yup, I agree. It's to try to keep idiots from picking up parts to nail up on the wall next to their deer head "Say Billy Ray, this har is a part of the shuttle, we's found it and thought it'd make a nice decoration..." or people selling them on eBay... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

They were obstructing or tainting an investigation. Anything that can be found of the shuttle is evidence that needs to be examined. Just like any other plane crash. They are not only taking things that do not belong to them but coming in between an investigation.

I think the sentence is fair. They were not just collecting trash...

Well...I know of a good way of making sure you don't have to spend 10 years and that huge fine....anyone want to guess?

Think about how many of those idiots are going to show a toxic piece of the shuttle to their kids? [IMG]

If it isn't yours, don't take it!
