Hi & Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all of you!!!
I have this question that lingers in my head about this back bench seat.
From 1973-80, there is no step down floor to put our feet in.
Does these years have the fold down seat as shown in the 1981 Brochure, even from 81-91, there is a step down.
But do all backseats fold down or not.
And if so, why does my Uncle's 1983 K5 doesn't have this fold down seat as specified in the 1981 Brochure?

I've noticed on Ebay & Coloradok5.com that everyone is looking for one.
    So am I, but for a 1977 & a 1983.
Just need some facts to clear up.

Factory issue for 81 and up was the fold and tumble rear seat. They might have started earlier than that though. It sounds like somebody swapped in an older rear seat...

The folding rear seat and drop in the floor in the back started in 78.
FYI a Suburban 3rd seat is the same thing, it just has the hooks in the front. remove the hooks and bolt in the K5 pivots.
I have the 3rd seat from my 81 Burb in mine.

Fold up back seats are a PAIN to add if you do it the way GM did. Look how a 78-up seat latches towards the back, and you will see why its not really worth it (IMO) to add one to an older truck. Besides, without the floor space the 78-up trucks had, i think if you pivoted the seat forward, it would hit the bed floor before locking in the folded position.

Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?

In 1978 they added a Fold-up rear seat and ALSO recessesed the front floor area furthur back which gave the rear seat passengers more leg room.

I like my rear folding seat. I need both floor space and seating so it works out really well for me. Something must have been wrong with yours cause mine's not a pain at all. Grab lever to fold it down, then pull the handle and up it goes.
I've got a '79 and it's got the recessed floor so rear seat passangers aren't sitting with their knees by their ears. [IMG]

You got me wrong : )

I have an '86, it folds no problem. I'm talking about 73-77's and trying to add a folding seat where there was none. THAT would be a pain and not worth it. The way the bed is where the seat latches would be a pain to fabricate in.
