page 98, aug. fourwheeler. the caption of the suzuki coming out of the mud. you can also see Dblazer in the background. the suzuki above also has thornbirds (at least his spare is) and he made it through that water obstacle. i dont think its the same one, because the top one has his doors on. so what gives??? are thornbirds good in the mud??? i really wish they would of been tested in that huge tire comparison a few months back to see how they compared to the other swampers, bfg's, MT's etc.

sorry, i love thornbirds, but the debate has always been so negative that i cant bring myself to buy them!!!

DBlazer-how did the Thornbird guys do at the "Texas Mega Run" ?

I like the looks of the thornbirds, but Ive heard negative about them as far as performance. The lugs look too close together.

I also wonder about the performance of the thornbird, I havent heard either way about them. There have ben a few rigs around here running them but these rigs don't look like theyv'e seen any offroad action, anyone else have any input?
    Cause they sur look perrty!

I'm almost positive DBlazer is NOT running Thornbirds. They just have a bad rep around here. As filling up with mud and not cleaning themselves. Kind of a poseur tire I guess.
BUT, with that said I was real good friends with a guy in high school that had a set of 35 inch ones on a F-150 with a pretty hot motor. He had excellent luck in the mud with his, but it was probably either the type of mud he was in, or the motor.
Just buy some SSR's and call it a day.

Birds suck. We had a guy on a run with them and all the trucks on BFG's were dooing fine but we had to keep stoping to drag him out.
Get swapers or stick with the BFG's.

No personal experience with Thornbirds but know two guys that used to own them (notice I said "used to"...).

One was a hardcore trail guy (Wrangler with lockers front and rear, winch, etc.). He bought a set of 33x12.50's several years ago when they were still fairly new to the market. He ran one ride with them and promptly replaced them with a different set of tires. The trails around here are mostly dirt and mud with steep hills an deep ruts. His opinion is that they pretty much sucked on the trail.

The other guy had a "street" truck ('89 Toyota w/ 350 Chevy). It had 35x14.50's on it when he bought it. They wore really fast and uneven, wouldn't balance, rode rough, and were loud. He replaced them after a few months with some radial mud-terrains and they made a huge difference in the truck.

yeah, i did a search a long time ago, and i am sure it was more than 50,000 negative replys.......but.....all i was saying, was that it would of been interesting if they would of been tested along side ssr's, tsl's, bfg's, mt's etc.

that was my whole point, besides wanting to know what DBlazer had to say on how they did in texas. after all, there are several pics of trucks using them in the coverage.

doing a "search" had nothing to do with this post.

I have seen DBLAZER's Blazer up close and personal, and I assure you he does not run Thornbrids.

lol, i know he doesnt run thornbirds, but the pic of the suzuki with them has his truck in the back and i was using it as a refernece to that pic. since he was there, i thought maybe he could shed some light on how the guys with them did.

sorry DBlazer, didnt mean to imply that you had "stuckbirds"!! [IMG]

but, wouldnt of it been nice to see some testing done on them and compare them to the other major brands??

one thing for sure though, most of the vehicles i have seen with them see no more dirt than what washes across the mall parking lot after a good rain. but it seems there are just enough guys that wheel with them to make me kinda curious!!!

oh sorry...i just get tired of replying the same thing to tons of duplicate posts like that....well i wheel the texas muddy rocks and I can tell you that tbirds suck. I had a set and compared to TSX they were aweful. Now compared to Mickey Thompson Baja Belteds, they were about the same in mud, but the m/ts bested the birds in sand, on rocks and on the road!

Baja Belteds look like they'd really have to suck in mud.

I saw that, but I didn't remember seeing Thornbirds in there.

I know I wouldn't waste my money on them. Not even close to enough void ratio for me. And not radials.
