My throttle keeps sticking when I stop at a light or sign. Last time it did this I sprayed some carburator cleaner in it and it fixed it. This time it didn't work and it smells funny when I start it. Any ideas on how to fix it or what's causing it?

    Q-jet?
    - Throttle shaft has worn the base houseing. To check, wiggle the throttle shaft, if it has any-play init other than rotational- it's bad and needs to be rebushed w/bronze bushings.

I'll check that tomorrow, but it should be ok since my carb is supposedly newly rebuilt.

My throttle was sticking on mine once but it was the calbe to the gas pedel. If you disconnect the cable and try it you will know if it's the carb or the cable. Pretty cheap and easy fix.

Pull the cable off the carb linkage, and see if it binds. Its likely either in your cable or the gas pedal assembly, like carpet wedged in there or something : )

Is the gas pedal sticking or is your idle picking up because of a maladjusted choke?

something is sticking because if I tap the petal when it does this, it will usually return to normal.

A little off the topic, but one time my throttle cable was looped around the cruise control thingofajigger deal. Everytime the truck was flexing it would cause the cable to be pulled tight to full throttle. Not a fun experience when you are close to rolling of a ledge. I simply stripped all the cruise of the truck, did'nt ever work right anyway's. What I am trying to say here is, check to see that your cable is not too short or in a bind.

    Keep it simple!

My thottle shaft wiggles a little bit, but not much and the cable wasn't binding. I think it was carpet jamming up the petal so I moved it out of the way and I'll see how that works. Thanks for the help.
