    Tie rods don\'t fit!

So as I decided to replace my tie rods right before I was going to drive over to have my buddy help me weld the steering support on the frame, I found that the replacement tie rods that I got were hitting the rim and the tire. As any red blooded american would do, I took the grinder to them.
Now as I am out of town and my buddy took the truck to get alligned, the guy said that I took off too much on the drivers side rod towards the bottom and it might blow out. Does anyone think that I could fix this by using a mig welder and just putting a bead around the bottom? Has anyone else had any problems with their rods fitting? I'm thinking that it probably had alot to do with the rims that are on ther but even the factory rod was close. Thanks for any help.
