Wheelers in or near So Cal,

The 40th Annual Tierra del Sol Desert Safari is coming up quick! It is on the weekend of March 1-3 out at the Truckhaven Hills near the Salton Sea (same place we had our Blazer Safari back in October!) Pre-registration for the event is due by Feb 18th, and you save $15 by pre-registering! You can get the forms and info here:

    <a target="_blank" href=http://www.tds4x4.com/>http://www.tds4x4.com/</a>

The So Cal Big Dawgs will be there in force again, and hopefully many others will come out and have fun as well! Any of you Arizona guys interested? Hope to see everyone there!

    Keith

Thanks Kieth. It doesn't say how much registration is on their Web sight (maybe I'm blind). I'll see what the wife says about this one. She feels left out because she didn't get to go to Ocotillo Wells.

Richard, you are blind... [IMG] just kidding! It shows it on the front page of their website, but for your info, Pre-registration is $45 and Registration at the event is $60. You have til Feb 18th to pre-register. And that $$ includes your one lucky raffle ticket (as I recall, you can't buy any raffle tickets there, it is only one a person!)

And for anyone wondering - you will NOT be able to "sneak" in to the lineup, they are VERY alert and watchful for cheaters (as they should be). They are also sticklers for the safety checks, so make sure that your rig complies with the Safety Checklist items on their site! Otherwise you won't be approved (and there are no refunds!)

It is a great event, awesome weather out there at that time of year, hard as you want them to be trails, unbelievable raffle prizes and plenty of elbow room! Camping is pretty much the same as the MDA event. The guys who went to the Blazer Safari remember it - totally "bring what you need" camping...no water, toilets, etc.

Speaking of the Blazer Safari, I finally got my hands on a copy of the video tape we made out there - who is interested in getting a copy? I am going to bring it to the TDS run, we can watch it in the motorhome! If you guys are interested in a copy, I can try to make some additional copies and you can just pay me the cost of the tapes...

Hey Keith, by saying "you will NOT be able to "sneak" in to the lineup" do you mean, non paying people who want to sneak in, or are you saying that if I get there Saturday morning and you guys are already in line, I will have to go to the back of the line? Just wondering, cause I don't plan on getting there till early Saturday morning and don't want to be screwed if you guys are already inline.

I am sure you could join our group on Saturday morning, but you better be getting there at your normal early ass time to get in line before we leave! [IMG] I might line up the night before this year, just to get a better starting spot. You will also need to go complete your registration before you lineup...you might want to call them and make sure that won't be a problem for you!

Last year, we cut in line with some of the Jeep club people, most people are cool with it if they know you are all one big Club that wants to go together...

We will of course need a couple of trucks to not be in the lineup so that we can get to and from camp in them! The lineup is usually started at midnight on Friday night, and they just kind of pick a spot...so it could be a ways from our camp...you don't want to be walking to it! [IMG]

Esteban, I would say you should call them (TDS 4x4 Club) and tell them your plan, make sure it will work for you...

Oh, and to answer your question - I meant "sneak in" as in not registering and trying to join the lineup...

You know, once we have gone a few times (this will only be my 2nd time), you can get away without registering if you know the area well enough to go do your own thing, but even with the lines and endless vehicles, it is still a blast!

I was planning on getting there at about 5am. Should I play Revillie at that time for everyone?[IMG][IMG]

I e-mailed the club and they said that Safety check and Registration will close at about midnight on Friday night and will re-open at 6am on Saturday. So I should be good to go with my plans. I will probably get in line for check-in as soon as I get there at 5am cause I'm sure there will be LOTS of trucks getting there that night. I should be fine.

And Richard, I'll be bringing my wife with me this time so make sure that Jen goes also so Barb won't feel like the only woman in our group. I won't have the kids, just Barb and I. let's see what she thinks about it.[IMG]

I may bring Jennifer, I'm just worried about how sore she still is from her car accident. That's why I didn't let her go to Ocotillo. As far as when you arrive, I'll have the fire going for you. Maybe I'll hook up a PA and play reville for eveyone!

Just show up for some meetings and runs and you will be in Mike! Just make sure that ebrake works, they actually make you put the truck in gear (or in your case try to roll it) with the e-brake on - it has to hold to pass the safety check...they are pretty strict on the safety stuff, so make sure you comply.

I think my radio is loud enough so that everyone in OUR campsite will hear it and be VERY annoyed by it. [IMG]
Now all I need to do is find a CD version of it.[IMG]

Does everyone going in my Sub need to sign the registration form (Pg 2) for TDS?

You can either have them sign it now, or just wait til you register at TDS...either way.
