Ok, on my old truck all I had to do to adjust the timing was rotate the distributor, but on my 89 K5 I know it has a lot of electronics. Do I need to do anything else on it to adjust the timing?

If your engine has an electronic spark control, there's a cable you should disconnect while adjusting the timing.

Start enigne, disconnect wire, set timing as usual, reconnect wire. In my brother's TPI camaro, it's a brown wire on the pass side of the engine compartment near the A/C blower motor.
