I know this HAS to be one of the most common questions but I have to ask....

What is the largest size tire I can fit on a stock 97 Tahoe w/ no lift kit? 31's? 33's? What is the equivalent metric size conversion to a 31 or 33 anyhow?

    Thanks in advance,
    KDub

I had 305/70/16's on my 94 Suburban- the little black "trim" piece that runs under your front bumper- may need to be shaved on an angle.. only for banking off the interstate. I did not ever rub- however had that not been trimmed- I may have. My tire guy used a dremel and just shaved it....I think had I not been aware of my tire's- I may have rubbed every now and then- 50mph, on an off ramp- etc... that sort of thing. I'd think 33's would rub- the 305's are equivilent to 31's... if you need rims- let me know- I'll get some pics and send you what I had on the burb-- though I finally sold the tires.

I am about to upgrade my tires as well, do you think that the 305 would fit well with 2" of blocks and torsion lift and 3" of body lift? I don't think I want to go with something as large as 35" especially since I drive around town mostly -- just a few fire trails for deer and turkey hunting and the occasional camping trip for me - no crawlin.

I would be a little leary of putting the 305's on a stock 7" wide rim. The 285's call for a 7.5 and I seem to recall the 305's call for a minimum of 8" rims.

That being said, I was running 285's on my stock rims on my 97 yukon with only a little rub when I was on a full hard right turn. Here is a link to BFG's website for the MT tire, they haven't updated thier pdf lsiting with the 305's yet, but other 12"wide tires call for 8" minimum rim.

It all comes down to how comfortable you are going outside of spec, and what you will be doing with them.

Ive put quite a few 12.50" wide tires on 7" rims. It keeps the bead protected at lower air press.
