Im looking at arkansas,, but I dont see to many members from there.. any residents care to post up about your state and racial diversity?

this is what I think about diversity

In my opinion, seeking diversity for the sake of diversity (or political correctness) has to be one of the biggest wastes of time and futile efforts I can imagine. I happen to believe diversity actually weakens society as a whole. Hypothetical scenerio- If you were seriously ill, would you want a <insert race of choice> physician (for the sake of diversity) or the best physician period? A few examples. Example 1-The minority quota system in education. Allowing less qualified individuals to be admitted to universities based on race (or having race taken into consideration), instead of based exclusively on academic merit. Lowering standards and expectations of people only weakens our society. Example 2. Women in the military for the sake of diversity. Women in the military DO NOT have to meet the same physical strength requirements (I.E. push ups, endurance running, obstacle course time) as the men. Would you want to be in the same foxhole with a person who couldn't phyically pull you to safety in the event you were injured?

I do not believe our strength as a nation is based in or on diversity but simply allowing individuals (regardless of race, creed, color, etc.) to be the best they can be-based on their own individual skills, talents, and abilities. The proverbial cream always rises to the top.

If I choose to hate, dismiss, or marginalize any person or group based on race, creed, color, religion... that is my individual choice. All the propaganda ads on TV and radio promoting any "liberal" agenda and all the government legislation in the world isn't going to matter. I am still free to think and feel whatever I want about anyone I want. It is my individual choice and right to associate with anyone I choose to. If you (generally speaking) hate me, ect., because of whatever reason- that's your choice. It's not going to affect my life one iota. I'm still going to do whatever I'm going to do in order to achieve and live the best life possible by playing the cards in life I was dealt.

To illustrate how absurd the diversity belief is- Why aren't there any one- legged asian midgets with herpes in the NBA? It's not fair they're excluded nor actively recruited. .

Move next to me, become a reserve and show us how you did things in LA:D

Seriously though, here are my thoughts. First off, I must disclaim that I would never move to Arkansas because of the stigma it has for being slightly backwoods and the home of Bill Clinton, but in my travel to that state (I have some family that live there) back in the summer, I learned some interesting things about the area of the state I was in.

Rogers is one of the fastest growing metro areas in the country. Back in October, they opened something like the 2nd largest mall in America, and we're not talking your every day mall either. A lot of companies are moving their corporate headquarters into town. The people behind all of this are also very conservative, so much so they are building some big ass church (I know that doesn't appeal to some folks) right on the interstate and they are putting some bigass crosses up and they could care less who whines about it. Recreational activities abound throughout the area. The guy that I bought my XR from happens to live in the same area and he's part of a group that rides a lot. There's lakes all around, some wheeling and there's pretty much a conservative aura to the place. But the bad news is they are getting flooded by illegals just as bad because the state doesn't give a flip and issues state ID and DL's to any Joe Schmuck that walks in.

You would be right down the road from Branson, which has totally blown the hell up over the 20 years from my first visit to my last. That's about all I have about anything in Arkansas, but I got it from a pretty damn good source.

Texas - We've got German Americans, Mexican Americans, African American's, lots of W.O.P.'s/various ethnic wannabe Americans, and then plain ol Americans. Plus, once you get outside the large MetroMess'es of DFW and Houston, political correctness pretty much goes out the window.

Move to Denton. We've got a kickass local organic grocery store that'd satisfy your vegan needs, lots of local hippy types because of the college that you could associate with(no offense if your not a hippy type), and a nice low crime rate. Plus the economy here is good and housing is nice and affordable. Also, kick ass music scene and lots of bars.

Umm not Arkansas. Not really diverse, I hear there are only four last names in their phone books:doah: :haha:

Seriously, I do like Oklahoma. Gun laws are great, PC is almost non existent, and patriotism is rampant. All we need now is good beer and porn:D Even our Democrat Governor is endorsed by the NRA:waytogo:

Just stay away from Canada if you want to avoid racial diversity... We are getting really bad that way....

And yes, I do agree with you to a large extent about giving other people a boost up based on the color of their skin, rather than their effort to succeed in life...

I'm not sure where you're talking about in Canada, Russ, but here in Southern Alberta, outside of Calgary, we live pretty much the same way they did 100 years ago, except we have indoor plumbing, vehicles, and furnaces.

I really can't imagine it's much different up your way. Kim's dad lived outside of Entwhistle for 10 years, and things were pretty much the same way there.
Now, if you're talking about down east, well.........

Come to New York. There's nothing liberal or PC here. Ah, nevermind.

Pennsylvania is nice, the limited experience I have with it. Maybe too far east for you, though, you strike me as mid/western to the core...

The "race" spot on job apps and anything else for that matter should disappear..only then, truthfully, can MLK get his dream "judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

People should get jobs, scholarships, college acceptance, etc. based on qualifications, never by skin color. All the EOE does is make the work worse by forcing companies to hire people that are only qualified for the job because of their skin color. Sticks in my crawl...

    my memories of Arkansas.

I dont know really anything about Arkansas other my family on my dads side has had 160 acre's just outside of Little Rock since the 1930's. its off a 2 lane highway way out in the middle of mostly forrest. my dads dad bought the property in 1931 when my dad was 6 or 7 years old. thay lived in the house that was there for about 9 years. he tore down the house that was there on the property since sometime in the 1800's and built a new home around 1940.

that house is still there and lived in by my aunt that is about 87 or 88 years old. my dads dad died when he was 18. his mom, my grandma died sometime in the mid to late 80's, not sure exactly when really.

my pop will turn 82 in 10 days on Feb 11. I have been to Arkansas 2 times in my life. once when my dad took me there to my grandma BUBBA's place when I was 2, he actually kidnapped me for 3 weeks and drove from Calif. to Arkansas, called my mom and told her she would never see me again. this was in 1972, he was only suposed to have me for the weekend.

after three weeks he had had enough of taking care of a small child so he brought me back to Calif. and back home to my mom. I remember my grandma sitting in the kitchen, and I remember the old cast iron wood burning stove in the living room. remember somt other vague momories too.

those are some of my oldest memories I have as a child that young. the only other time I went to Arkansas was when I was 15 in 1982, my dad and I went on a trip to Florida and went thru Arkansas to visit my Grandma since I had not seen her since age 2. we stayed there for 4 days to visit.

my grandma said she had something to show me, she actually had a pair of underwear of mine my dad had left there from when I was 2. she saved them all those years. I had Daja Vue when I walked into the house for the first time in 13 years, the old wood burning stove was still in the middle of the living room. it was surreal and kinda like a dream.

the country is beautiful from what I remember. its been 24 years since I have been there. I want to go back to see my grandma's old house before my dad dies, its like a museum. its like stepping back in time. he car which is like some 1940 someodd year car has been sitting in her garage since either 1942 or 1943 or something like that. I have a picture somewhere of it I took when I was 15. my dad said when CM, his dad died my grandma never drove her car again.
had family drive into town for supplies and food for her.

this has nothing to do with anything but just the mention of Arkansas and those are the memories that come to my thoughs as though it were yesterday. this is just touching the surface of the memories of those 4 days I spent with my grandma and aunt, but this is too long allready. thanks for bring back a good memories I had so long ago and had not thought about in many years.

Paul, come to Edmonton, and you'll understand! Walking around in the West Edmonton Mall, and you'd honestly think you'd been teleported to Asia...

I'm not trying to be racist, and I don't really have any problems with people of other races, so I'm not really that concerned about it, but I do have a problem when the bums from other countries come here to take advantage of our welfare system...

Anyways, thats all I'm gonna say so I don't open a can of worms :D
