I turned 22 totday, (12-12) and Sammy gave me a set of rims for my 35" tires. He is a nutcase, I just met him a week or 2 ago. First actual meeting was only saturday. And now he rolled in the brand new set of 15x10's.

Anyway, now I'm ready to go to my 35's. I have the 12bolt axle that I got from Sammy as well. I've done a little reading on this site and I found that 4.56 gears would be best. Is installing gears something I can do myself? I'm also planning to put in an ARB locker in the same go.

What reading on this forum and searching back also told me is that most of you do not like the type of tires I own. But they did super under the jeep. Also, Sammy drives them. He says that they almost seem to be developed for the Dutch trails. There simply is nothing better over here.

Other thing. Could I install a transmission cooler myself?

Oh, and you are all invited to the party. lol.

wow. happy birthday.

4.56 gears are pretty good for 35's, especially since oyu tow a boat. I would suggest having a pro do the gear change and ARB install, because there are very close tolerances involved and you need special tools too.

What type of tires are they? Thornbirds? They do seem to have a rather negative opinion around here, but ive never seen them in person so i cant judge.

And yes, you should be able to install a trans cooler yourself.

P.S. Way to go Sammy!

Happy B Day!!! [IMG]

Damn Sammy!! Get em'

Anyhow, installing gears, I wouldn't recommend it personally. No offense, but I would get some more experience on other stuff, easy stuff, then harder stuff, before I tackle gears. I've never attempted it myself, but getting ready to install an ARB locker shortly myself. (that's easier than gear swap). Definately put the ARB in at the same time doing the gear swap. Maybe have someone who has done it before help, while you watch/and asisst...best way to learn.

What tires you got?

Tranny cooler...Yes, you can do that yourself. Super easy.

Happy B-Day Lana!

In the states, there is a birthday tradition where people give you "a pinch to grow an inch".....

I think in your case, we should just say "Happy Birthday" and leave it at that!!! [IMG]

Have a good one.

Happy Birthday,Lana!![IMG]

There is article about doing gearswap on December 4Wheel&Offroad.After I read it,I've been thinking that when I need to do gearswap,I guess I do it myself.
If you think that you can do it,and know what you're doing, why not.

Tranny cooler instal is a piece of cake.

I'm too lazy to stick shift, that's why I prefer autotranny.

Happy B-Day
I did my own gearswap for the first time. It worked!!yyaaahhoooo
It took me almost 1 month to complete. I was only able to work on it on weekends and some work nights. It was not easy and you NEED lots of time to doit yourself. Also more tools like shop press, gages and others. If you don't have alot of time then paying for it may be better. Cuz sure would suck to go thru all that work and have it explode on your first test drive.

Good Luck
