OK, here's the story. I was talking to a guy w/ a H#$P, and he said that Currie was doing some kind of modifications to a Dana 44 to make a Dana 70 (thats what he said) fit inside it. that is the axle shafts, r&p, u joints and outers. I personally thought this was too good to be true or just plain BS but I wanted to know for sure. is this even possible? oh yeah, and an even better catch (besides being a dana 70 inside a dana 44) it only costs $1000, to convert the whole thing ( you supply the 44.) I personally thought this was BS but it would be cool to prove me wrong.

Well I'd love to see a ring gear in the neighborhood of 10" fit inside a housing designed for 8.5"...[IMG]

I think yer buddy is smokin too much crack...

Why even bother when the biggest U-joint that'll fit is still the 5-297 thats so famous for being the weak link? U joints explode way more often than carriers.

I agree with Rene. Your source must be smoking too much crack!!! [IMG]

I cannot visualize the big 10.5" D70 ring gear fitting into that itty-bitty D44 housing. I would bet the D70 ring gear is as big around as the D44's housing alone!!! [IMG]

Actually this is part true. The part about putting the axle shaft in it. The only draw back is they have to bore the axle tubes out to fit the larger diameter axles in it, which brings the wall thickness of the axle tubes down to that of a 10-bolt. This is not a DIY installation. Requires some serious machining equipment that the expense alone is not worth the hassle.
