    Are those the spring rods that help you move the gate up and down?

    yes, to help it move up more than down. That gate is heavy! I just put one on and didn't put the torque rods back on. Needless to say I'll be putting on those robs real soon, that SOB is heavy!

    Yes they make it easier to close the tailgate. Not on mine, it is very heavy.
