I just bought an '86 K5, and I was wondering if anyone has raised their torsion bars to get about an inch and a half lift on the body. I have almost no money after fixing my electrical problem and carb, but wanted to know if that extra inch and a half would clear my 33" mudds without any other lifts. This is just a temporary solution, and I know they'll probably sag after a month anyway, but I want the tires on now and don't have money for a lift yet. Anyone have any advice on torsion bars.... do's and don'ts... pros and cons??? Anyone know if the stock 1986 will rub with 33" tires? Thanks in advance y'all.

If it's an 86 K5, it has a solid axle. In 88 on pickups and 91 for they converted to IFS, which has torsion bars. Hope this helps, as far as clearing 33's stock I'm not sure.

An '86 K5 doesn't have torsion bars. It has leaf springs at all 4 corners. You can get some cheap add-a-leaf lifts that will raise the rig 1 to 1-1/2 inches, but that's just money you could save towards a real lift kit.

My '87 K5 didn't have any problems with BFG 33x12.50's mounted on the factory mags, with no lift.

Thanks y'all. You'll have to please forgive my ignorance. I am still new to the K5 community and haven't even had my vehicle up on the rack yet to get underneath it. So no probs with the 33's on factory mags... this sounds promising. Thanks again.
