I tow with my 90 3/4 ton Suburban. The heaviest I've ever towed was a 89 1 ton Chevy (big block, Extended cab). My car hauler is 2300lbs, I think total weight was around 10,000lbs. I have a class IV hitch. I would recomend getting the load leveling/WD hitch, trailer brakes, and sway control. Get the trailer brakes first, they're the biggest help. If you go to a RV lot they have a lot of good advice since they pull so much behind those things.

Definately a weight dist hitch. Makes a HUGE differance. Every guy I wheel with that tows uses them. Much more stable.

I tow my Jimmy with my 2001 2550 HD 8.1/alli

5500 + 1800. Just the factory hitch. I have had no problems with mine.

This isnt the best setup but i have towed my 1970 K5 with a 16ft open trailer and a 1998 5.4L Expedition. Not the best but it gets the job done. And im using the factory hitch.

    ditto here-

we have towed tons with our 2001 2500 HD D/A combo- and never been happier- factory hitch. etc..

seems maybe you need to trade in the truck for one of these! explain it to your checkbook this way---

if i get the new truck- I wont have to buy a new hitch, la da da da..... works for me LOL

    lol....

well, if i bought class V hitch, i would be good to go, but my class IV is only rated for 600#TW/6000#GVW. so, in order to use it i would have to use a WD hitch (250-1000 bucks), to up it to 1000#TW/10000GVW.
The class V hitch i can get new for about 150-250 bucks, but i am afraid i would just have to get a WD hitch later on

i still dont know what to do /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Ok get this hitch. I had this on my 1993 K2500 w/ the 454. Towed anything and everything. Never a problem!

You can find it for cheaper, but I couldnt link to it from anywhere else.

I have that hitch on my truck. It is a very nice product. It is heavy compared to the factory, which is a good thing.
The only problem, on the short bed trucks, is if you run larger tires. The hitch will hit an oversized spare.
