I think I posted this on the old board, but I think we were in the process of converting. Anyways I have a access to a Tpi system wiring harness sensors everything from a (305) Trans Am. I am curious how hard the conversion from my Tbi unit in my 87' K5 would be? Has anyone done this or know of any material online to help me out. Is it as simple as swaping fuel pumps, harness, sensors, and intakes??? Any help you can give is greatly apprieciated.

The four center intake bolt holes on the TPI, are vertical, not at an angle. You will have to drill them out to fit your motor. As long as you have the complete harness, sensors and ECM you should be fine. Painless Wiring makes a harness for about $300. There is a book about the conversion called TPI swap. I did mine about 9 yrs agao and love it. The only thing I would probalby do different is not to put the Electric fuel pump in the tank. When you get low on fuel and turn a certain way the fuel pump is starved and the truck cuts out until it gets fuel. You should get a High flow in-line fuel pump. AZ TPI sells a nice set up for about $150. Give them a call or look up their web site at ArizonaTPI specialist, they are in Tempe, AZ They also sell the book

    Good luck

What about a prom chip? The camaro chip won't be right will it? Is an aftermarket part available?

On mine TPI I am using the Camaro Prom. My buddy bought one configured to his motor hp, cam etc. The Corvette, Camaro, Firebird prom will work fine. I am using the whole camaro motor assembly and all. You just need to know how to hook up a couple of wires, check engine wire light to the existing harness. The Blazer ECU will be tossed

My 79 has the IROC '87 TPI in its' entirety on my 406 SB.....used the exact same sensors, computer, etc. Used the Painles Wiring harness (price was just at $300, as noted above) and it dropped in slick. Had to cut a hole in the exhaust as my truck was obviously pre-computer, but all in all went easy. Used the IROC heads so no drilling was required, only the steam vents. MUCH better than a Q-Jet, and probably way better than TBI. That TPI book "Chevy TPI Fuel Injection Swapper's Guide" by John Baechtel is very good, and informative. Lots of neat ideas in it. Worth the $16.95.

Yep, my 406 has no problem with the stock 350 injectors. I also don't rev it to 6000 RPM, so not sure if it would starve up there...........no need for me to rev it like that.

Two good books are Chevrolet Fuel Injection by Motobook and
Chevy TPI Fuel Injection Swapper's Guide By John Baechtel

I got my TPI from Jim's performance and spent hours on the phone with him.
I had Jim's Performance do my wiring harness he took my TBI harness and changed it to TPI for only $150.00
Jim is the one that told me about the knox sensor it was not in the books. But then again he does this for a living!

TBI manifolds and heads have the four center bolts on the intake vertical, like the TPI.

I've been kicking this idea around for a while too, I have access to the top half of an 87 Iroc 350. I just wish I had more time.

Another book I came across is SunCoast Conversions "Tuned portHandbook", found it to be very informative. It gives wiring specifics where I was told others didn't, just sent you looking elsewhere. I did an S-10 swap, and I'm currently hunting a good deal on a tpi setup now for my 70K5. What are you guys paying? I can find them for $300, but I think a better deal can be found. Last year they were bringing $100- 150.
