I'm looking for another K5... and I am trying to convince my wife that it would be a great idea to trade her 97 Grand Prix for someone's K5 who is looking for a car that gets decent mileage... Her arguement is the lack of mileage in a full size truck, and I don't know what to say to her... She would love to have a K5 of her own, but not at the sacrifice of half her gas mileage or more. Hell, I'd love to have another one so I can park the 70 and take out a newer model and beat up or at least have something to get us where we want to go when we want to go...

    Key points for my arguement...

    1. Cargo space
    2. Ability to go anywhere
    3. Convertible. =)

    Key points for her arguement...

    1. Need good mileage for long trips
    2. Rough ride in a K5 with leaf springs
    3. Past experience with Carbed motors has made her sick... literally.

I suggested a diesel for the better mileage, and I'm considering suggesting a late 80s early 90s Burb for the better ride quality, better mileage with diesel, and room for the whole family (including the 2 dogs.)

What should I do from here? How would you go about winning the discussion?

Take her for a test ride in a 89 to 91 K5. Have her drive it. And also get a cheap little car for the MPG's.

Diesel seems like your biggest selling point to me. Better milage, and it doesn't start on fire nearly as easy as gasoline. :waytogo: And I fully agree with Z3PR, let her drive one, and if she likes it, she'll get it. And do you really think she'll let you beat it up if it's hers. I'd kill my hubby if he beat up my burb, esp since I drive it everyday. If it's gonna get beat up, I get to do the damage. :wink1: Another good point for K5s vs car, that car is losing value as we speak, but the K5, might even appreciate.

Z3PR, your sig linky no worky?

    good luck. lol!

search your local craigslist... find a decent geo metro to piddle around on road trips in and use your K5s for wheelin'. Dunno about anyone else, but I can't afford to DD a gas guzzler at $2/ga... even a desiel.

Already attempted... while she likes the idea... I still have yet to convince her of it being a good idea... her car gets about 24mpg on a good day... my stanza gets 27mpg any day... and my truck gets about 14-15 on the freeway. I'm sure I could find a 6.2 that would perform as well as her car for mileage...

I'm still trying to get her to let me put a 4BT in my 70... but I'm keeping it original... =)

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

Hey what about the K5 being a lot safer than a car. It's for the children. :wink1:
