We're talking hi dollar krylon here. My fiancee and I are going to paint my truck in a couple weeks and I wanted to get a good mental image of what it's going to be before we start laying down the tape. At first I wanted urban camo, but then more and more trucks were showing up painted like that. I live in Texas, so every hunting truck here is regular camo. I need something that stands out but doesn't look gay. Right now, I'm liking tiger stripes. The truck is already black so it'd need to be something that goes with that. Either orange tiger stripes or lime green. Any other ideas??? Looking for cool and not so subtle and definately not show truck quality. $50 is about it.

Krylon and other rattle-can paint oxidize very quickly in the sun.... You might get one year out of it before you start seeing bare spots.
Can you seal and wax rattle can paints?

that's a good idea rocko. I just may do that. need some pics of desert storm trucks now...

As for the spray paint thing, I may shoot it with paint out of a cup gun just since I've got access to the booth and tools. Would have to buy my own paint though.

Do the desert camo and paint the white stars on the doors. I am either going to do that or flat olive drab.

Shoot on a base coat, olive drab. then lay some branches and leaves up against the truck and paint over them. Then you'll look like a forest driving around. Do it yourself realtree camo.[IMG]

LOL LOL oh yeah, van halen all the way! I think I might do the desert camo. Sounds neat. No ICQ. My folks do have yahoo messenger though, get on there and I'm capn_insano79

Steve, it's been a long hard go of it but she's about to be going again. I'm sure you understand all the hardships of this hobby better than anyone. I kept thinking it would be all done over and over again but finally I can see the end in sight. I'm now full convertible and just ordered the tubing for my cage. I lack a few little things, but WILL have it together by mid July. Gotta make the Disney run in August!!

I Krylon'd my new (to me) hood a few years ago. The 5' red bow tie on the hood is Rustolium. I liked the Rustolium a lot better, it went on much more evenly and with less coats. May just be a difference in the nozzle, though. Try to find one with a fan type pattern, instead of the little circle that most have, about the only thing those are good for is grafiti. Mine was really dull and flat when I first did it, it actully looks better now. My truck hasn't been waxed for many years, it gets washed 2-3 times per year (after Moab and when the soft top comes off for the winter).

rocko, just the one that max crack posted. I like that one, just not much black if any. If you've got any more, I'd love to see them. And thanks for the heads up pscrommit. My truck will get washed once a year if I'm lucky, so low buck paint is key.

Here are some sites I've found that explain camo patterns and such.. all kinds of good info.. even places that show how to create your patterns.. http://www.olive-drab.com/od_mvg_camo.php3

I just painted mine olive drab at MAACO. Before I did that I sprayed it with Krylon's olive drab they use as a "camo system" and to tell you the truth, I liked the rattle can paint/color a whole lot better than the $300 MAACO paint job. The only reason I didn't stick with the rattle can paint was because I questioned its durability as some of the guys on this post said. My truck is my daily driver and I just couldn't see the paint surviving the Texas sun. The Krylon paint is basically and green primer and it hid my crappy bodywork exceptionally well. I highly recommend it. I wish I could have left that paint on now that I see MAACO's results, but oh well, I'm getting used to it. You can find the olive drab Krylon for about 4 bucks a can.

Looked at all the links you sent rocko. thanks

Found this site for a source of DRMO paint:
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.surplusjeep.com/trspaint.htm>http://www.surplusjeep.com/trspaint.htm</A>

Think I'll go Grey Desert and buy by the gallon. At $30 per gal, I may as well do it right.
    45% sand
    45% field drab
    5% Earth yellow
    5% Black

How much of each ya think i'd need on a full convert topless blazer with a full cage?
