Okay, I'm moving back to Michigan in October. When I grew up there I didn't 4x4, so I know very little of the state's available trails and "play" areas. I will be in the Grand Rapids-Battle Creek-Kalamazoo area. I'm interested in any places you can think of, but mostly what is in the lower portion of the lower peninsula.

    Thanks.

There isn't much in the southern part of the state. Silver Lake sand dunes in Mears, the Mounds in Flint (soon to be adding a rock garden), Big O and Little O in Baldwin. Those are the ones that I have run in the southern MI. The northern lower, the UP, and Canada have much more to offer. I get trail maps from the Michigan Cycle Conservation Club (MCCC). Put a post out when you are getting close to moving, maybe you could come on a club run up north.

I believe there's a trail that crosses M-37, between Newaygo and Baldwin. Can't tell you what it's like though.

AJM I'll have to check. I haven't renewed my membership for the last couple of years because one of my motorcycle riding buddies still has his. Most of the state park (department of natural resources) offices also have the maps for free. The MCCC book is just nice because you get them all at once in one book.

I went to a GL4WDA meeting last fall. There was talk that they had the funding for it and it was approved. I was there a couple weeks ago and I didn't see any evidence. Wishfull thinking I guess.
