My 700-R4 finally crapped out. It's slipping, seems to be grinding, and shutters on take-off from a stop. There is fluid in it, but I think it's time for a new tranny. The question is, should I have this one rebuilt, or just have a TH350 put into it? Either way, it's going to cost me the same amount of money. I need some input here guys. See ya!

imho...you need to keep the th700r and have it rebuilt. if you plan on doing any over the road driving. overdrive does come in handy sometimes...even though you only get a few more mpgs...that's my opnion though.

I would have the 700 built to hold up to anything, very HD..

My 700 is also starting to slip. How much does a rebuild usually cost. I want to get an idea before I start shopping around.

The 700r4 is one of the most expensive trannies to rebuild. Most places will charge you around $1000-$1800 to do a complete rebuild with new convertor...

My friend had his done by Rossler Transmissions and it was about $1500...

1200 to 1500... for a stock rebuild in the truck. I upgraded to Raybestos Blu clutches... extra clutches where we could muster them, vette servo, and few precisly drilled holes and filled areas in the valve body to enhance the shift. Runs awsome... but then a friend of mine is a Tranny guy and did it. I'd highly recomend keeping it and building it up... just get a good cooler

if you go with a 350 over the 700 you will probably want to re gear front and rear to compansate 4 the loss of the overdrive

Had mine built last Dec. and it was $1500. Mech said my engine wasn't breathing and needed a new cat. converter, so I had him replace that also. Sure made a diff in power.

I drive my 700 in Drive/Non-Overdrive most of the time. No probs up to 70. I'd drop a TH400 in there if I were you. Regear? Just put bigger tires on if thats a problem for you.!

The guy I bought my Blazer from. Had the 700 rebuilt about 9 months ago. It cost him $1695.00 to rebuild it. He gave me all the paper work because it is still under there warranty. But that was here in Calif. Where evey thing cost to much. LOL

From Reading your bio. I would put a 400 in. But a 700 is a good tranny but it is like a woman, it can be very beautiful but you have to take care of it. If you mis treat it it will leave you.

Will work for beer, parts and tools.

what tcase do you have...going to a TH350 my give you all sorts of problems with trying to find the right midplate adapter. and if you go to a TH400 i think the output shaft has a dif spline count, so that means a new tcase. i just got finished going through the same thing, so make sure you cover all possible problems before you start!!

i like imports..........they make good speed bumps

Well i just put a rebuilt in my 83 after i had pretty much lost all
but 1st gear and had some grinding noise from the converter
area any i got the rebuilt for 850.00 with tax i rented a tranny
jack for 20 bucks after it was all said and done it cost me about 950 and all. Doing it this way work best for me if i had
a tranny shop do it i wouldnt have known the cost untill it was done, and when it would be done. Mine is my only ride
it had to get done ASAP. The rebuilt has a 24month 24k warrnty not to bad. I did the pulling and putting in a day in the
parking lot of my apt. Good thing too it snowed the next day
Now if i had time and money i would of got the JET 700r but at 1500 or is it 2500 anyway it was'nt option at the time
Well thats my two cents worth. good luck

Lost? i'm not lost i'm just disorienated
