    tranny swap ?\'s

I am about to begin swapping an sm465 and np205 into my 1982 k5. The tranny and tcase are out of a 1976 chevy 3/4 ton. I have the whole pickup for parts, and my old tranny and tcase are a 700r4 and np208. I want to know if everything will bolt up such as crossmember, pedals, linkage, and such. I am also swapping in the 3/4 ton axles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I helped a buddy do the tranny/t-case swap several years ago. Everything bolted up pretty easily. Installing the pedals is a real back breaker. You may have to drill new holes in the frame rails to bolt up the crossmember, but that's no biggie.

The 3/4-ton axles are a bolt-in swap, just be sure you have the correct axle u-bolts to fit the larger diameter axle tubes. The front driveshaft from the 3/4-ton truck will also bolt right on. You'll need to have the rear driveshaft from the 3/4-ton truck shortened to fit your K5.
