well i bought the truck knowing it had a bad leak,,
pulled it replaced the front seal,
    that wasnt it,
pulled it again and replaced the pump bushing,
well a day later it came out, on the way home from work,
so i put a new front pump cover and bushing in
not knowing that the drive home burend he 3rd and 4th
cluthes and steel up, i put it back in and had no 3rd or 4 gear,
so now we do a rebuild of all cluchtes and steel,
now its great for 3 weeks now i have no 3rd and forth gear,
im just tired and damn near broke,
ive pulled and put this thing back in 4 time by myself,
    and im a little guy 5'6 125lbs,
im just tired of it, and from what ive read the 350 and 400 are better trans,i can get the 350 or 400 trans for 150.00
just need to know what it takes to make it work,
i use it to pull my boat and go hunting thats about it
so gas milage isnt a big deal as we only live 15 from the lake,,
    Thankyou all please help

You may want to look at a good rebuild of the 700. Go to www.advanceadapters.com and look what it takes to swap in a 350 or 400 as far as price (a 350 is probably cheaper P/N 50-7100 for $204.90 whereas the 400 requires P/N 50-7000 for $437.12). With a 350 you will also need to hook up a kickdown cable ~$25 from GM and a manifold vacuum source (can be done for under $20). With a 400 you will also need a vacuum source and the electronic kickdown switch ($$??). Think it over first, as going to a 350 or 400 you will lose the nice lower first gear as well as the even nicer overdrive. Just something to think about as I don't know your intended purpose of this vehicle.
