I'm looking at my first 4x4 to replace my car. It's an 88' GMC Jimmy, ex-government vehicle, no options, 350 FI, 4WD, 33's etc....however, everything I've looked at up until coming across this gem has been auto. This one has a 4-speed?(3-speed with low as first). Is this a decent tranny? Is it able to keep a cruising speed on the highway? Need to know what the situation is with this tranny.....

It is called a 465. It is bulletproof, but has no OD. It's not a good tranny to hot-rod around with, but if you're looking for a super strong tranny with a great low first gear for off-roading, it's perfect. I love mine, and people swap the 465s into trucks to replace autos all the time, but don't often go the other way.
