i just recently purchased a 1987 k5,, and it run's awful when it's first started up ,, then it warms up and run's a little better ,but going up hills is like a effort, i thought it was a carburator problem, but it seem's to be working,,then when i'm on the highway at about 65 or so the yellow service engine soon light comes on, for about 10 min, or more, run's like it's struggling, when on the gas, if anyone has any helpful hint's it would be greatly appreciated,, Thank you !!!!

Not the carb since you don't have a carb, it's TBI. Pick yourself a Haynes manual, take a paperclip and stick the two ends into the top two right hand side holes of the aldl hookup that's right under the steering wheel and to the left, looks like a computer hookup. The check engine light will flash a code, like one flash, pause, then three flashes. Does this three times. This will be a code 13, but of course you might have another trouble code. Then look up in your Haynes manual or post it on here and we can give you more help.

Buy a Chiltons or Haynes manuel at any parts store. You can use a wire jumper to check the ECM codes. It makes the engine light flash a certain number of times for different codes. For example a code 21 will have 2 flashes folloed by a pause and then 1 flash. You can cross refrence the code that the service engine soon light flashes with the code in the Chiltons or Haynes book to figure out what the problem is. If you get the book it explains exactly where to put the wire jumper and all that stuff.

When all else fails... Check the blinker fluid.

It probably wouldn't hurt to change out your fuel filter...sounds kinda' like a fuel delivery problem to me.

Another thing to check would be the spray pattern on your injectors. Pop off the air cleaener and watch how the fuel is shot into your intake. Make sure the fuel is coming out of the injectors evenly. If not, you may have to have your injectors cleaned.

    Good luck, bro'!!![IMG]
