Ok, I’m driving home from work and get off freeway. I give a little gas and she kinda sputters. I’m thinking I gave her just enough gas to get in that middle point of go and no go. So I let her roll to the red light and give her gas and nothing. I put it in park and turn her over, starts up for a sec then dies. I’m thinking gas…nope, just toped it off this morning…no oil, nope she want to run….So I’m thinking fuel pump. Try to start her again and she runs but sputters out…Fuel pump…. Tow truck driver ask what I thinks wrong, I tell him fuel pump…he has to get in and try to start it….”yep fuel pump” he says….. Thanks guy..
So anything else you think might be wrong? And if it is the fuel pump what is the best one to install on a 72” no smog Q-Jet?

It could be a dirty fuel filter.

A stock fuel pump should do just fine.

Fuel pump or clogged filter sounds like a likely culprit. I agree, a stock pump is fine.

Change the fuel filter first. If no go, bolt on a new pump. My old 72 K5 had a 454. It would vapor lock when it was hot. I put an electric fuel pump in line back by the tanks. When it'd bog down, I hit the switch and it'd roar back to life /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Check and see if you have fuel at the carburetor. That is the quick way to find out if it is a fuel problem.
