I notice when I drive down the freeway that some tractor-trailers stop at the scales and some don't. Whats the pre-decision factor in which makes the decision that they do not have to stop? I've always wondered why some do and some don't.

The ones that bypass the scale house most likely have a pre-pass system installed.

Is those pre-pass systems those things that they actually drive under while actually on the freeway. They've got them installed about 1/4 - 1/2 before the scales house.

Exactly. The truck has to be enrolled in the system with the state, and if everything checks out they are allowed to bypass the scales. The trucks have a transponder in them.

    Green means GO
    Red means STOP
