I am getting some money back from my taxes and I want to get some gears. Witch would be the best combo to run
4:56 gears with 38.5/16.16.5 swampers or
    4:88 gears with 38.5/16.16.5 swampers.
Right now I am running 1 ton running gear, th400, NP208 with 4:10 gears and 36 tsl swampers.

how much highway does your rig see? id go 5.13's if that truck is Trailered to wheelin spots. Cuz from what i understand a Th400 is highergeared then a 350.... but then again you got the 208 which is lower then 205.... Like i said 5.13's for a 100% trail rig..... 4.88's otherwise.

The motor I have is a new crate motor. Pretty decent motor. The specs sheet says 325 hp and 380ft lbs.
MY truck sees veary little hwy use The only time I use the hwy is to go fishing and hunting and minor road trips.
This is my dailey driver and probally sees 10 to 12 miles a day if that.
I think you guys talked me in to the 4:88 choice.

Colin, if it helps, check out the gear/rpm calculator on www.ring-pinion.com for the different ratios you are considering. 4.88 or higher if you're not hauling down Hwy 97 much.......... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

i think 4.56 is as low as Im gonna go in my axles. If i want lower ratio... I'd go doubler or atlas, or klune... that way I could still have good on-road/small-tire gearing to get me around town. of course if it was gonna be trailered everywhere, bring on the 5.13s or 6.92 (2.5t w00t!). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
