Alright, stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. My '90 (TBI, stock, blah, blah) is running funky. Just think it needs a tune-up. Never done it on a fuel-injected truck and was just looking for suggestions on what to change and such. Just did the distributor cap and rotor not too long ago. So what else would you guys suggest?

    TIA

Plugs, wires, fuel filter, check timing, air filter, PCV, etc. The placard in the engine compartment should outline the procedure for setting timing and the fuel filter is located on the inside passenger frame rail.

While I am in no way an advocate of additives, I did put some injector cleaner in my truck and it seemed to help a little.

Cap,rotor, plugs, fuel filter are the basics. If you have a drivabilty problem you may want to watch the injector spray pattern when it is running. Also if you have a multimeter checking the resistance is easy on each injector, but if you haven't done the first four it would definetly be worth it before doing much else. Also if you just did a cap and rotor you may want to double check the routing of your wires. It can be easy to switch two around by accident.

The spray pattern is a pulse correct? Or is this a constant spray?

pulse width is checked with a noid light or else you can use a test light. Doubt that is your prob. The spray pattern is kinda a big oval... it will get trickle like or weak if an injector is clogged. I forget what brand FI cleaner has the pics on it that are pretty good. But if both injector look to be spraying evenly and cleanly you should be ok.

02 (oxygen) sensor would be good too. Its just a sensor on your exhuast that tells how the engine is burning and if thats off it'll tell the computer the wrong things and adjust incorrectly.

plug wires, gapping your plugs, or getting new ones,

if you want to do a real tune up. Pull out your throttlebody, and or intake and clean that out with o2 safe carb spray.

theres not much you can do with EFI cars these days except the above. Most injector cleaners dont really do much, because gasoline already has additives in it.

new fuel filter, is it time to change your trans oil/filter, lube your chassis, lube door hindges, parking brake cable, check your diff fluid.

this is all in your owners manual.
