These Centurion conversions came up the just the other day when I was shootin' the breeze with some Ford guys...

It was the first time they'd seen my '84 Burb, so the standard response was "nice truck... too bad its not a Ford!"

    I said "Show me a Ford fullsize 3/4-ton wagon with a diesel for $3500... and I'll buy it " /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/burb.gif

Called Centurions when they're 4wd and Metropolitans when they're 2wd. Sorry to disappoint but the rear on the Metro a friend had didn't come off as easily as a Big Bronco's does.

One local police department has one. Not srue which one but its all outfitted with lights and sirens and has the name of the police department on it. It looks like pretty capable rig. Best I can figure they built it for getting to calls in wintertime conditions.

rare? not really, most of them fell apart! I has the misfortune of working on them when I was a ford Mechanic. What a cobbed together piece of %$@%!! I hated working on them, They cut, splice and buggered the factory harness to make things work. Most of them were based on 1 ton crew cabs, not a bad start, but then cut the frames, and weld a roof section together. It was great to watch the roof crack when I put it on the lift!! My boss loved that to, they had to eat that repair!! We had one towed in, didn't run. After a couple hours of simple diagnotics, we found the fuel pump didn't have power. But the relay did. hmmm... were did it go?? It's supposed to be a direct wire. NOT!! the crew cab had dual tanks, so they put the switch in 1 position and taped it up under dash, way out of view!! They used the dash hole for the switch to hold the rear window switch! these, along with most conversion vans REALLY PISSED ME OFF!!
