Okay.. I have the opportunity to buy a 1976 Blazer"Trailering Special" as it's badged... with a 1982 front clip on it..
And under the hood is a 454 !!!!
It runs.. it's been sitting for a year... Interior is gutted.. but it's there.. He told me $500.00 and it's mine...
Too good to be true? Sound like I should jump all over this? Is the 454 worth the trouble?
I'm looking for a daily affirmation here.. [IMG]..
Guess I'm just trying to justify buying it... [IMG]

Just buy it! [IMG] Whatever you don't use or want you can always part out and make back that money... or if you change yer mind then sell the whole thing and make it back...! Either way you won't be out anything....

    Re: How does this sound...!!!

I forgot to mention.. it has 4 inch suspension lift.. and new 35inch Bfg all terrains on 15x10 inch American Racing Outlaw rims...
I'm going to buy it... [IMG]
I just want the rims, tire and engine..
And it's painted Camo scheme w/ leave print's all over it.
No major rust.. just needs a good cleaning..
I was thinking of just making this my full off-road duty truck and converting it over to full convertible..
I have a lead on a full topper in great shape off a 1974 Blazer..
Suggestions? Recommendations? how hard would it be to make a full convertible? Since I'll mainly leave it topless all year round..

I'd buy the 76 fo sure. I think you should get 3/4 ton (if you can't find 1 ton) axles, sell the 35s, keep the 4" lift, and put some 38-40s on...who cares if you have to trim the hell out of it...the 454 has enough power, and it would be an awesome trail only rig.

    Re: How does this sound...!!!

Oh it's definately worth trimming.. The guy I'm (potentially) buying it from.. said it had a 3 inch body lift also which he removed.. and it had 44's..
    12 bolts supporting 44"s? [IMG]
Anyways.. i'm pending one deal to complete another.. I hope it all works out.

YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man I can't believe how lucky you are finding not one but 2 killer deals! The 72 was an awsome deal and now this. Man I wish I had your kind of luck.
Well I think you will find that the 76 still had rocker boxes like the 73-75. If the floor is sound and the boxes are not rusted off then your set to make it a convertable. It has all the extra bracing already on it.
In the Glove box should be the build sticker. Pre 81 what the options on the truck were printed and usualy didn't need to figure out the codes. I think the trailering special got either 3.73 or 4.11 gears and I think it got a locker. not sure if it is a Gov or a posi. I have finaly figured out that my 79 has a Posi not a gov. It had the off road package that included a locker. When I opened it it didn't look like a Gov and I recently ran across some information that there were 2 different lockers.
    Killer deal you got there.

It's not my damn planet monkey boy!

Thanks Grim... I will go work the deal for the full top this week.. And the underside.. show's no sign's of rust.. The rockers, rocker boxes are in good condition.. I checked the truck over for rust top to bottom..
Full convertible it will go.... and SURG !!!!.. I need to look at your's to see where I need to chop the truck... let me know when you have it back in the Austin area.
And to all !!!! : I'll gladly keep my eyes open for anybody looking for another truck.. at a good price here.. I just seem to find the deals sometimes.. I've had a good week so far.. the streak continues.

    Derf00...
Well.. I looked at a local military base... no one was willing to help me in finding or getting parts there.. they told me .. the Blazer's are being Phased out.. and that they are stripping them down and sending them to Fort Hood to be De-Miiitarized... I asked if someone there could hook me up with some parts.. and everyone was like.. Um.. No.. we don't want to lose our jobs.. so it was a big N0-GO... bastards.. why not give up some parts if your going to have them destroyed.. I'll keep checking though Fred..

Tomorrow.. I should have the 76 here at the house.. And the motor runs' great.. it had been sitting for a year.. I was with the guy .. we put in a new battery and primed the carb... it fired right up.... Can't wait.. best thing.. it's only two blocks from my house...
I'll get some pictures of it ... and post them on my site..

    Re: How does this sound...!!!

    Well..
    The 76-82 is home..(it's a 76 with a 82 front end on it)
I bought and brought it home..
Barely running.. since it sat for a year... actually over a year.
Carb was blowing gas all over the engine.. so I changed that out.. it's running better.. no more white/black smoke coming out the tailpipes..once i put on another carb.. it all went away.
Pulled the carpets.. barely any rust anywhere.. Gotta love Texas Trucks....
The 454 is going to be put to good use as a trail truck only..
The 35 inch BFG's are in great shape.. brand new.. he put them on a year ago.. on Outlaw 2's 15x10's.. The Bfg's still have the blue coating on the White lettering.
Now.. I need to get her tuned up.. registered.. insured.. and cleaned up.. and cut the top off.. make it a full convertible.
I'll have pics posted this week.. I used up a roll... [IMG].

<font color=blue> If anyone else is wanting a 74-75 Blazer.. I know where one is sitting .. I'm getting the top off of it. but the guy said he'll let the whole truck go for $500.00( Negotiable.. i'm sure.) . Has 12 bolt's front/rear, Trans, Tcase.. no engine.. has lift.. about 4 inches. and looks to be 33 inch tires..
Rockers are shot.. Front clip is in good shape.. and rear area needs some work. Anyone interested .. let me know..
