The wife and I are doing the house search deal. We've been looking for awhile. It's so overwhelming that I've decided to take off a month just to give it my full attention. We've been looking at 4 beds/2+baths/2or3 car garage on at least 1 acre or more, 10 years or newer, 2800-3500 s/f. The price range on what we want is from $185-285k. We've qualified for enough to find whatever we want, but that doesn't mean I want to spend/borrow all of it. I'm trying to stay around 200k, but it's going to be a hard task. My question to you guys, what does a house like above go for around you?

I haven't shopped for a house around here but knowing what I do I'd say, 300+. Acre of land, decent new home, garage, 300 may be conservative.

Bruhahahah. That big a place out here would be seven digits, pure and simple. I'm looking for a small place, just for me (recently separated) and "al" I can afford is $350Kish, which won't buy s&&t in a gunfire zone.

"Out here" is defined as within, say, 100 miles of San Francisco.

I knew a Cali quote would get in here. Definitly makes me feel better about buying a house out here in the "Boonies".

Something that size in Louisville would go for $0.5M to $0.75M, depending on the neighborhood. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Around here it would run you $300-400K, depending on location and quality. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

In 1998 we sold a NICE 3,500 square foot home in the suburbs of Houston for $145K. That one was a 2-story brick home with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 3-car detached garage, all on 4-tenths of an acre that we built in 1991. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Re: What does a newer 3500s/f house go for in your city?

We're going to look at a house in the morning. It has 4bed, 3.5bath, library, theater room, 2 living rms, dining rm, dinette, 4 car garage 3800s/f on a 1/4 acre. 2 years old asking $239k.
After seeing some of the above prices I'm feeling really good about it.
We did shoot an offer on a house earlier 2day. It was a 2600s/f 4bed,3bath,2living,2car, with a seperate 30x40 insulated shop(badass) on 5 acres. They were asking $233k, but so far we got em down to $220. Trying to get em down to about $210k. Kinda smaller then we want, but the shop and the 5 acres is a biiiiiiggggggg plus for us, well I mean me. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Land is getting crazy here. All the developers have inside people that get them land before it hits the market and normal people can't beat what they are willing to pay. They buy a $400,000 lot, slap 30 $250,000 homes on there, you work it out.

Yep, we were thinking about moving back and I was checking out the prices....yuck. Makes me sick that we didn't buy a house back in 95' out there. I could of easly doubled my money on it by now.

Re: What does a newer 3500s/f house go for in your city?

My parents bought our house for like $70 something I believe. Its a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, small cape cod(no idea on square footage), over the years and with the few things we've done(like a garage that has more square footage than the house) its been quickly estimated at like $200+. Things are crazy around here, I think whenever I move its going to be up northern PA or New York, only place I think I will be able to start a life.

Your talking about over in Sellersville, right? I know the area. I deliver Ben n Jerry's over in Hatfield about 4 times a month to CSI and then run down to Camden for a load of Dole. It's pretty thick w/people though that area between Allentown and Philly.

yeah, its getting worse every couple freaking days. Where you are going in Hatfield is a little worse than my town but not as bad as some. What is CSI by the way?
