What is the deal with upper ball joints on solid front axle
    chevy 10 bolt.
I have been told that some felt play when jucked up on a floor jack is OK as the ball joint is not designed to be tight untill under load (weight on the wheel). Is this accurate?
As long as tight when weight on wheels it is OK?

    NO!
balljoints should NOT move at all with no wieght on them.
If you can rock the tire up and down then they are going bad.
