Ok, I have to ship two 454 heads to hayward, ca from bakersfield, ca. Is Fed-Ex any cheaper than UPS when it comes to the heavy stuff? UPS has an overweight charge and they want like 130 bucks for shipping /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif. Also, anyone happen to know how much a BBC head normally weighs? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you have a Grayhound bus station in town? If so look into them... I'm almost positive Hayward does. They will carry stuff like that and for a really good price. Something to consider.

i used to work in a shipping warehouse for FedEx Ground (residential mostally) and let me tell ya, I'm never using FedEx.... If we saw tires coming down the belt, we'd grab the smaller boxes and "shoot hoops" and sometimes long over sized boxes would jam up the belt and back it all up and we'd have to walk on the belt and start pulling/ripping the boxes out to unjam it.... i'm sure that happens at UPS somewhat, but i'll still ship ups... also i never delt with the huge boxes, but from what i saw they weren't treated any better /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif

I've shipped Pontiac heads through the US post offioce before. They weighed about 70 lbs a piece and I shipped two different boxes and it only cost me $80. Don't know how much BBC heads weight, though.

I ship FedEx if I can. I have had too many run ins with the UPS people.
"Oh were sorry, we didn't hold your package for you to pick up."
"Oh were sorry, its going to cost you an arm and a leg to send that."
"Oh were sorry your computer was inoperable because of bad shipping."
"Oh were sorry the UPS guy gave you the wrong package."
    "Oh were,...." BANG!!!

Never had a problem with FedEx.
"Heres a box for you. Heres some stuff to put around the item so it don't become a pancake. Heres the cheap total for Next Day compared to UPS." And they are open late and can bring the package to you the same day if they miss you!!
