    Hello Gang
I just got a free Dana44 front from a friend that was moving.
I took it without looking at it cuz he said he was told it was from a Chevy.
After he droped it off I started looking at it and notice it had no manual hubs just the chrome caps. Then I noticed that it look to me like a spring under type cuz the purches are on the bottom??? Any Chevy ever have unders??
I haven't got around to pulling the cover to see whats in it but I have a fealing this ain't no chevy front D44, it looks shorter too from a glance.
Should I sell it or tear into it and see what pieces I can save that are the same and then junk the rest??

try and get the numbers off the rear, either from a tag under one of the diff cover bolts or etched into the tube close to the pumpkin. As for what it could be I have no idea, but once you get the numbers you can have all your answers. Also If its a posi maybe u could use it even if its not a chevy. JS

Ya cool thats what I was thinking!
Do you know were I can referance thoes #s once I get them?
Also did most of the D44's have the same spline count on the diff., cuz if that is a posi then I will most likely tear it all apart and i mean ALL. Then junk the housing.

If its a spring under, with six lugs and full time hubs, then its prob. out of a big J**P, a J10 or Wagoneer or something with the quadratrac transfer case, unless it has a posi i'd sell it.

Yes it is a sixlug full timer with spring unders!
Ya I will pull the cover then see whats in it and go from there.
Lets say it is from a big J**P, do you think any of the 'pieces' would work on my K5's dana44? Spindals? Hubs?
I doubt the shafts, too short???
    Thanks
