I bought a video capture device from best buy, just remember video files are VERY large. I would have plenty on my website if it weren't for the 512k a file upload limit.

I haven't found any good video editing software out there for free yet, but probably the best is "Adobe Premiere".

If you want to get your video online and want some real good compression (at the expense of video detail), check out http://www.real.com and go to Content Design Tools and download "Free RealProducer 7" - it will convert .AVI's to the format used by those places that stream out live video and stuff. It will stream almost realtime with 5 seconds of prebuffering on a 28.8 modem if you choose the highest compression method.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
