I just put some Vortec heads on my 88'K5. I was going to use some Flowtech headers untill I realized that they wouldn't fit my aftermarket exhaust system. So I decided to use my stock exhaust manifolds for the time being. Nope, won't fit. 4 out of 6 bolts fit but the last end port/runner bolt holes are about 1/2 inch off. I asked around and I guess the Vortec's are different. I can't be the only one here with Vortec heads so what are other people doing? Thanks for the help.

Displacement, cubes, and did you say you drive a riceburner???

The exhaust manifold bolt pattern is the same on all small block Chevy heads, including the Vortecs. The log type manifolds that you have are notorious for warping, causing the problem that you now have. Do you still have your old heads? Bet you cant bolt the manifold back on them either. You can enlarge the holes in the manifolds a little to try and make them fit. I had a hell of a time gettin mine back on my '88 pickup when I rebuilt the motor.

Pep boys sells a spreader just for this, it fits between ports and you turn the screw to spread them, other folks I have talked to have used them with good results.

Yep. The manifolds fit on my Vortec heads just fine.
