They suck you in with their convenience and trick you with their low prices... Everyone says it's a good store, and all I see is white trash headquarters... Now, I live in a trailer park myself, and my parent's trailer could use some repair and grass... But I don't exactly fit the image our home portrays... Nor the image of your typical Wal Mart shopper...

Today I stopped in there to get a prescription filled... My normal pharmacy was closed already, plus it was across town and I was on my way to a friend's house and Wal Mart was right there... I always feel bad as I pull into the parking lot of that place. I prefer to support local business or at worst, smaller chains. Unless it's after midnight, since the only 3 places where I can buy general stuff that are open 24 hours are big chain stores... I feel like a friggin hypocrite when I go to Wal Mart during the day.

Anywho... I dropped off the prescription and walked around the massive store... Perhaps I walked about 10 miles in 15 minutes, without even going 1/4 of a mile... I was tempted to buy some Popeye and Superman cartoons for $1, but decided against it...

I picked up my prescription, and when I got to my Jeep, I figured the price per pill to compare prices with my normal pharmacy (which, by the way was the cheapest in town until Super Wal Mart came along with a pharmacy inside)... I saved 50 cents per pill there... That's $15 a month... Very tempting... I was thinking I need to start going to Wal Mart... Medication friggin kills a 21 year old, it's out of control and I should try to save a buck wherever I can...

I'm not sure what kind of evil demons took over my mind and told me to start doing that, but I talked some sense into myself...

It's worth $15 to support local business and, even though one customer won't make a difference, spit in the face of Wal Mart by spending my money elsewhere...

You didn't hear this from me.

I work for a certain installer of security systems, and we just got word that old Wally World is going to be getting rid of their Loss Prevention department. The rumor is they will keep one guy on to research internal theft, but the rest is open season. Reasoning is that they had a couple horriffic cases last year where they killed some people when arresting them for shoplifting. I guess they figure that it's just cheaper to let the stuff walk than to pay the settlements trying to protect it.

Now if they had some better hiring standards, maybe they wouldn't hire idiots to catch shoplifters.

So, if your a tweaker, who happens to support your habit with theft (even though this probably isn't the case, because all tewakers are honest Christians) stop by Wal-Mart. It's basically free.

Dude, save money even if it means shopping at Walmart. I was a idealist when younger, but after you get alittle older, all that crap doesn't mean anything anymore. What becomes importent is the all mighty dollor. When you're paying rent/house payments, utilitys, food, clothing, ...ect, and everything else that cost $$$ in life, you'll care less and less about local stores and more and more about where you can get the better deal, walmart or not.

You guys slay me. WalMart is the epitome of capitalism in action. I've seen the specials done on WalMart and despite the slanting of the show to make WalMart out to be the devil incarnate, they are the poster child for a pure capitalistic company. They negotiate the lowest prices possible, then pass the savings on to the consumer so to draw them into their store over the next guy. I support buying local only to the degree that my tax dollars go to pay for my local parks, etc. But, why would you pay more just to try and keep a Mom and Pop store afloat when they charge higher prices? That is basically consumer socialism. Competition in all arenas is what drives people to excel. Why apply the pathetic welfare model to the corporate world by taking the onus of competition off of some businesses by subsidizing them? Like Z3PR said, my money only goes so far.

Every since I moved here to Oklahoma that is all I see is frigging super walmarts. I'm used to having different stores, but I really don't have a choice since that is the only place to go grocery shopping cause there literally is no other place to go. I guess they just came in and took over. Wal-mart is so communist with all of their China products.

The Mom & Pop stores charge more because they have to... and I'd rather pay Ma & Pa another $1-2.00 for something to keep their business afloat than go to Walmart to save a buck. It costs me in gas what I save to get to Walmart in the first place. I know the Ma &Pa stores need to charge more because they pay more in the first place. Who do you think gets a better deal on a bulk purchase, Ma & Pa who buy 20-40 of an item or Walmart who buys 200-400 or more of an item. I've seen this work first hand as I look at my "wholesale" pet supplies catalog compared to the prices for the same merchandise I see on Pet Store shelves and E-Bay stores alike. I pay the same wholesale as many of the internet stores are selling them as a regular price. I suppose if I bought 100 light bulbs, I could afford to charge what they do, but I wouldn't be able to afford anything BUT those 100 light bulbs until they all sold. If a single bulb didn't sell (they cost me $30-45.00 each at wholesale) I'd be hurting big time. These big companies that buy in huge mass quantities kinda make me sick because they are driving the little guys out of business in a quick hurry.

i dislike shopping. end of line. BUT i dislike spending more money than needed... so i shop around. if walmart has it for less thats where i buy it. certain things i do not purchase at walmart, furniture being a good example.

quality reasons. as for the stores, i think they suck in general. seems like they dont ever have JUST what i want. something close, but never exact.

I kind of find it hard to support a company who pays like 5 cents a day to workers over in China or where ever, and then takes that back from them because they force them to live in their housing. They hardly pay employees over here anything at all that they have classes to teach them how to get government money.

At the Wal-Mart in Shallotte, there is an optometrist, a hair stylist, a Subway, a jiffy-lube sorta deal, and a florist. And that's before you even make it past the cash registers into the store.

I think it's safe to say that Wal-Mart does, in fact, have EVERYTHING.

Hippie mother f*ckers are the only ones who hate wal mart, simple solution is don't shop there if you don't like them, they'll die off soon enough. Otherwise STFU.

Supply and demand in case you never took a business class.

My biggest pet peave about Wal-mart is that there isn't enough room to walk around in the 2 we have. They load the aisles up with product too.

yeah everybody here uses it for social gatherings,it pisses me off because I have 2 kids and my wife and I take both of them with us when we go grocery shopping .W use 2 buggies and the damn people are just standing in the middle of the isles talking. Then when you say excuse me they gets pissed lol.And the fact they decide to stock the shelves at 5 oclock pm instead of 3 am when nobody is in there. But like I said we dont have any other stores that even come close to the prices and with 2 small kids I have to buy at the cheapest place.

They dont have a titty bar (for you Rodney Carrington fans). Wal-Mart didnt get to be the biggest corporation in the world by making people hate them. I will say though, every wal-mart that is more than a few years old just feels gross and dirty when you walk in. I saw the documentary on wal-mart when I took sociology and it was interesting to see how they worked but what they did to rubbermaid kinda sucked. If yall havent read it, a book called Nickel and Dimed by some woman offers a good inside view of wally world employees.

That's about the dumbest thing ive ever heard. I’ve taken my share of business classes also. There is just a little bit more than just supply and demand or low prices.[/FONT]

Walmart isn't convenient for me... its a farther drive, I go there for the prices.

"trick" you with low prices? huh?

Clearly you don't live in the northwest... home of hippies, socialists and walmart haters! ;) I think its a good store though...

    1) holy racial slur batman!

    2) I see a LOT of people of different ethnic backrounds at my local walmart. Plenty of rich people too. My parents shop there, and they are loaded.

Kind of silly, but to each their own. Couldn't it have waited until the next day when you could support the mom n pop?

yikes... I think I may have found the problem! ;)

Finally, some sound, well thought-out thinking! Consumers voting with their wallets is how capitalism works.

Oh brother. How about you swing by your local mom 'n' pop once a month, give the old guy behind the counter a $10 bill and then go home happy. You'll save money, and be helping the "little guy" at the same time...

Expand on that then, I would like to hear your explanation as to how the basic tenet of suppy and demand does not apply to Wal Mart, the largest reatiler in the world.

Not saying that Walmart isnt a very very successful company, but the way they got there. They have put millions of store out of business, I personally rather go to a mom and pop store and pay an extra buck. Remember when Walmart use to have the banner in their store saying "Made in America"? Well not any more, they pay people over seas to work for like a few dollars a week, and the people who work over here get paid and treated like sh!t. They do not treat women fairly, and hardly ever get in to any management positions. They do not have any morals or values, they are very successful and other companies are looking at them and will probably follow them. Sure I want the cheapest price too, but at want cost at someone elses expense.
