How does one get warn locking hubs onto a Dana 44 since it has no place to bolt the locking part to??

Early Dana 44's did have the bolt-on style, or "external" hub. Later 44's and all front 10-bolt axles use an "internal" style hub. The hub assembly fits inside the extension on the wheel hub and is held in place with a large C-clip type of ring. Then the outer part of the hub, with the dial on it, bolts to the inner section. They're very easy to install. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
