Did GM ever use a Dana 70 front axle in any of its trucks... such as in the front axle of a 1-ton dually? Or is it always a D60 in a GM?

Also how do you tell the difference between a front D60 and a D70 front?

    thanks

    Dana 60 9.5" ring gear

Dana 70 10.25" or 10.5" ring gear (cant remember exactally, but one of the two)

I'm not sure about the older pre '73 body trucks but from '77 through the end of the straight axles, GM has always used a D60 front in the regular production trucks. Even in the dually's the front was always a D60.

I've been told that some of the mid 90's 3500HD trucks (telephone and power company type) had a D70 front but to the best of my knowledge those trucks are not factory 4WD.

    OK wait...
    I thought the
    Dana 60 = 9.5" ring gear
14 bolt FF =10.5" ring gear
    Dana 70 = 10.54" ring gear

so the dana 70 ring gear is only slightly larger than a 14 bolt full floater.

OK, one more time, here it is:
    Dana 60 = 9.75" ring gear
    14 bolt FF = 10.5"
    Dana 70 = 10.54"
Yes the Dana 70 ring gear is only slightly larger than the 14 bolt FF (the 14 bolt SF has a 9.5 inch ring gear), but the Dana 70 (and 80 for that matter) have the same size axle shafts (1.5 inches) as the 14FF.
