My washing machine will not turn to wash or spin the laundry. I can hear the motor energizing but not turning. Almost sounds like when the garbage disposal needs to be reset, kinda hums but no action.

Anybody have some pointers or if this has happened to you?

I really don't want to buy a new machine before Christmas:doah:

I'm always in and out of the computer room .

But being as you said GE , I can tell ya it sucks .

So I can rule out the lid switch , since the motor runs .

First things first , check belt .

After belt , take the clutch off by removing the oh chit clip off the end of the motor shaft , and make sure the shoes aren't toast ( looks like a drum brake setup inside ) .

third is throw it out , if its not the belt , or the clutch , its gonna cost more to fix a GE than to buy her a Whirlpool direct drive toploader ........ seriously brother !
