I am trying to find out the difference in weight between a 4x4 and 4x2 of the same year. I was looking at the specifications page and the weight for the 1978-79 was approx. 3800-4200 lbs. However, I assume this is for the 4x4.

Could anyone tell me what the difference in weight would be? Also--I noticed that the blazers/jimmys went UP in weight consistently until 1991, even though I thought during the 80's cars were being made lighter to save gas. Odd.

The only significant difference I could see would be a transfer case and front axle. The 2WD has a very heavy front crossmember and A-arms however, so I don't see much more than 200 pounds or so....if that. I wouldn't buy one or the other soley based on weight.
