welding guys (fuel oil tank it cut it up??)

    Can some of you welding guys tell me the safe way to cut up a fuel oil tank it is a 250 gal /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

    Does it have fresh oil in it? or has it been empty for sometime?

    can u wash it with water first?? if not, is there n e way u can put some CO2 in there?? just throwin out ideas, but u could get a CO2 fire extinuisher and fill the tank up with it and keep doing that till the job is done. just throwin out ideas /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif mayb burn ne thing in it first

    The tank has been empty for over 5 years and is vented to the outside

    how will u b cutting it?? do u have a plasma cutter?? or torch? a torch is gonna take a while. whatever u do, good luck. o ya, if it is thin enuff, take a stick welder, crank it all the way up and go nuts. that will cut it

    Sorry it took me so long to get back with you on this.
    I asled the welders at work what they would do. The one I asled said there will be still resido (sp) In the tank even after five years seeing as it was oil in the tank. He thought the worst would be a fire and should not blow up on you.

    Run a hose from your exhaust of your vehicle down into the tank and it will kill the oxygen in the tank. This will keep it from exploding or burning, but you will need fresh air for yourself. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
