And I've had enough already. By the time you get here, you are ready to go home. At least the hotel has good internet access!

Its hard to see the sea and the mountains through the stinky smog. About a third of the people wear masks, even indoors.

Tomorow I go to the Philipines. Maybe that will be nicer. Or hopefully I wont be able to see the air. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Are the masks for the SARS virus or just the smog/crappy air? /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

I lived there in 1980 and they were wearing masks then. It isn't the SARS, it is the air.

ahh yes, i have not gotten such a workout of my mandarin in a long time. Trying to translate "need SIM card for my GSM phone" is hard.

The automated train system is pretty cool though.

Ah, the memories. "Choooooooooooooooooooooooh Dooooooooooooooooooooooooofu........" every morning outside of my window and then the lovely smell wafting up into the room. That's when I learned to cuss in Mandarin.....which eventually drove the little cart guy to another spot.... /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I acutally might just have one- You talking about the "new york NY" skyscraper? It really isnt all that tall. You might be thinking about the one in Hong Kong.

ummmm...no. Im thinking of Taiwan. The tallest building in the world is there, its 1,671 ft tall... about 300 feet taller than the WTC was. Sadly, this building would dwarf anything currently standing in new york.

    linky

fun fact, this building also has the fastest elevators in the world. The ones that go to the observation deck run at over 3000 ft per minute.

    heres pics of it...
