All ethernet connectivity went out on my main box........ poopers

So I check the other box on the network...... IT'S FINE!?

No way my magical deathbox can be broked!

All parts and cables check out.........

    So, wierd........

The disheatening thing is, I don't know how I fixed it. Somewhere between three restarts and a safe mode along with two modem power cyclings and three router cyclings with an additional router reset, and a foray into Hijack This! it came back on.

I deleted soemthing fishy in Hijackthis.....

I cannot recall directly, but it said something about a content filter, and I'll be damned if I'm going to have any sort of filter installed on MY computer.

So yeah....... I'm supposed to be literate comp wise, and I basically did the comp version of kicking the fender and starting it up a few times to see if the noise would go away.

RJ: what if anything do you use for a firewall.

I knoew Zonealarm and Symantec IS both had anti-tamper protection, such that if something killed or tried to mess with the firewall service, they would lockdown your ethernet connection out of "safety".

    Otherwise .... Standard network troubleshooting

    1) physical link (link lights on both ends)
    2) IP yes / no?
    3) if no ip try manually assigning the ip / if you got an ip, repair connection
    4) get me answers to 1-3 and i'll help ya from there.

Well it's all better now but......

I do have Norton Internet Security

Its started to bog down and screw up right before it went

    1. I had link lights on both sides, the NIC was fine, the router seemed fine
    2. I could not get to the router though it's address, or ping anything (websites, routers, other computers) from my box, The routers set IP's and whatnot were fine. My DSL is PPPoE
    3. I'm sure all the setting were proper, it was just all of a sudden "**** you RJ, no network!

Anyway, it's back after I messed with it as detailed in the first post
