    And I got a new toy :D

Yugo SKS, with sporter stock and a bipod. ~220 with 30 rnd mag. They can be had cheaper, but this one was in good enough shape.

    Photo to follow shortly.

How do you like that cleaning foam? I have never used it but have heard great things about. I really never let mine get that dirty......

It works awesome on my other firearms after a long day at the range. Cleans up my .357 real well after I put a couple hundred through. Cuts the cleaning time down a lot.

But then again I keep the rest of my firearms in excellent shape.

You think someone has been shooting that corrosive crap through it?

I think the russian ammo is probably corrosive. It is cleaning up though, but very slowly.

Well, with a genius combination of Outer's foaming bore cleaner and remington's 40-x bore cleaner I got all the gunk and crap out of the barrel. Just to find how extremely pitted the entire barrel is. :(

Good thing SKS's are cheap. I can get another barrel or a whole reciever pretty cheap.

How bad could the pitting be it's an SKS what kinda accuracy are you looking for???Or is their other reasons to be concerned with pitting??

This is true, but I tend to be anal-retentive about my firearms' cleanliness. I still plan on shooting it at the range tomorrow, and keeping it. It would be nice to find an unissued chrome-lines barrel for it though :)

Right on! From what I understand, SKS's are a sister to the AK, right?

    Yes and no.

The SKS-45 was modelled after an 14.5x111.8mm Anti-Tank rifle. The SKS-45 was designed by Siminov, the AK-47 was designed at pretty much the same time by Kalashnikov. The Chinese would later adapt part of the AK-47 to the SKS-45 creating the SKS Type 56.

The SKS is more similar to the anti-tank gun than the AK-47. The only thing they share is the same ammunition and the SKS-D uses AK-47 magazines.
