when i get my k5, it will be my daily driver. im a kid and i most likely will take off the top in the summer and just have the soft top rolled up. my problem is what about security. i plan on having a decent stereo, and i dont want anything ripped off while my protective hard top is in my garage, what do you guys do about this?

You can have an alarm setup with TWO microwave sensors. One mounted in the rear side panel and one mounted behind the dome light in the main section. They dont transmit thru metal so thats the key place to mount them. These sensors pick up anything that enters the area aimed. Drop Dblazer a PM about alarms or search for this topic in the audio section. I know I have asked about certain types of sensors so you can get lots of background info there.

For real security, go with a Tuffy security console. I don't really worry about mine, since I live in a pretty much no crime area, and whenever it's parked, I can keep an eye on it.

Put a fat bumper sticker on the back that says... "Guns don't kill people, I kill people! Touch my Blazer and you'll be next!" LOL [IMG] [IMG]

I have a large box that is bolted to the bed that I can store all my stuff in.
The stereo I am not worried about and the CB can be unhooked in a flash and locked in the box.
I also live in pretty much a crime free area so I realy don't worry to much about it.
Unless I have to go into Portland then I get concerned about leaving it unattended for even a little bit.

I'm in the process of putting in an alarm, Tuffy locking console, and a kill switch. Even something like The Club would deter most bad guys.

I Just bought the Auto Lock from one of those infomercials. Yeah I am a sucker, but much better than a club. I live in San Diego and 4 of my friends have had their trucks STOLEN ! So I use an alarm with starter kill , A club and the Auto lock that goes over the brake and renders it useless! And i am going to get a fuel pump switch soon. ! I am the Paranoid type though, especially after spending my life savings on my baby! hehe

I have a Tuffy Security Console for Stereo, CD changer and "hog leg". When it's parked at home they first have to get past my 120# dog, she's friendly, most of the time. When away from home, I sleep with the "hog leg", flip a few well placed switches in the truck and hope no one is fool enough to try.

Do a search on this board for the Tuffy Consoles. A company (offroadtoys.com?) is doing a mass order, and the prices on the non-radio models are about $75 less than they normally are, and they have the radio mount versions as well. Today is the last day to get your order in!

I got the Tuffy center console for the stereo and CD changers. I built a speaker box that I bolted to the bed floor. Then I built a ply wood box that bolts to the roof holes on the bed rail to put over the speakers and the amp when the roof is off.

    That's because I'm the devil.

You could have nothing of value in the K5.

I wish I had thought about this the other day.....I took my top off yesterday, and just remembered today that I have to take the SAT on Saturday, and its in a REALLY GHETTO area, I've never been there before. Gotta take that minivan, even though I think I'm allergic to it...
